I have coronavirus, I'm breastfeeding my 3month old and I'm having a weird period(menstruation). Please cheer me up.

Me and DH both tested positive for CV on Saturday. I started to feel a bit better on the Monday but it just went downhill after that. I feel incredibly weak. Too tired to eat. Can't taste or smell. I'm having to really force my food down as I'm burning calories breastfeeding. I cosleep with DS as he used to sleep better like this but the past few nights have been torture as he hasn't slept well at all.

DH helps best he can in the nights and will take DS fora while but he is suffering too. On top ofthis I'm havinga wierd start/stop period.

We also have a 3 year old. I'm having a very negative outlook on things at the moment.

Anyone at all? Any positive stories of recovering relatively quickly?

Hi, I am a breastfeeding peer supporter. If it makes you feel any better, baby will be getting lots of lovely antibodies from your milk which mean they they may be less likely to get it, or that they will get it more mildly.
Do make sure to keep up your fluids, that's just as important for the bf as your body needs fluid to make milk.
It can imagine its pretty tough with a baby and a three year old.

Is this the first sign of a period since your pregnancy?

If it is, you shouldn't automatically assume it is menstruation, especially as it isn't following a normal pattern and you are breastfeeding (exclusively?) and co sleeping with a 3 month old, so statistically shouldn't be restarting your period yet.

Do you have any other signs of new bruising or bleeding? Thrombocytopenia can show as spotting.

Could you drink smoothies? Keep hydrated and some calories.

No idea about the CV part, but the 'period' part.

I had a bleed at 4 weeks after having DC5. I thought it was a just the lochia squeezing the rest of itself out. I was feeding round the clock, and also tandem nursing my 3yo. 4 weeks later, another bleed etc. Yes, my periods returned straight away.

Sorry you’re struggling OP. I’ve just finished my ten day isolation after catching covid from my child’s school. I felt rotten for a few days (4 at the most) and then it improved. The loss of smell/taste only lasted a couple of days. It’s not fun and the scaremongering certainly hasn’t helped, but try to stay calm and you will get through this.

Thank you for the replies. It actually means alot. I am exhausted and feeling very sorry for myself at the moment. This would all be so much more easier to manage if I didn't have little kids.

@EgonSpengler2020 No, unfortunately it's not my first period. I've been bleeding for acouple of days around every 2 weeks since 8 weeks postpartum. It's incredibly annoying and this on top of it just takes the biscuit.

@Vallmo47 Good to hear you recovered nicely. I'm hoping for the same fate. Did you do anything in particular? Or just rest and ride it out?

@HumunaHey It was quite difficult because I have two kids who were well and kept asking for stuff, lol, but yes I did try to rest as much as I could bear to. Lots of calm activities like drawing/colouring, board games, tv/film. This too shall pass. 💗

HumunaHey · 13/10/2021 18:09

@Vallmo47 Thank you. I'm counting down the days. X

@HumunaHey You will get through it and then we can breathe out for a bit hopefully… it’s like having a third jab, that’s how I want to look at it.

HumunaHey · 16/10/2021 11:25

Its beginning to feel like the jabs have done nothing. I've been pretty comatose the past few days. It's beem a week now and no signs of improvement for me😔
