COVID - should I cancel Holliday?

Hi, unfortunately both my DS and I got positive PCRs last week.
To cut a long story short, does anyone know how long after you’ve had symptoms / positive PCR test, will either a LF or PCR test continue to show positive?
I ask, as both our isolation periods end this Friday 15th Oct but we are due to fly on holiday on the 23rd Oct and whilst I am double jabbed so I won’t need a PCR before I fly, my DS isn’t as he is 16 (he had the jab booked for the day he got a positive!).
Do you think a PCR is still likely to show positive then? Trying to work out whether to cancel holiday or not? Thanks

For those looking at cancelling and insurance, insurance policy is fuzzy, says a positive test within 14days , we are 16days including day of travel . If we waited until the 2 days before test and then waited fir a positive, that would fulfil criteria, but we already have a positive, so should we let them know now? Any experiences on this please?

I'd ring your insurance company and get their thoughts.
As it's more than 14 days from date of travel you may need to proceed with PCR/Lamp test - who knows it might come back negative.

LaBrujaPiruja · 12/10/2021 10:04

Can you change dates without a fee?

Quartz2208 · 12/10/2021 10:08

@LaBrujaPiruja

Maybe I have not made myself clear? Or you missed my point? What I am saying is that people in the UK claiming these countries are open because they need their custom, their tourism, is nonsense. It is much more complex than that.
Yes which is what I have said all I said it allowed tourism - then I said it is a complex thing but that having an orange list (which is what is causing the issues in this thread) is by far the best way of approaching it rather than having anything shut down.

Closed borders and red list countries with Delta basically at the moment shutting down all other variants isnt the way to go

I do get your point but I am not sure why you are implying that I don't get it or have said anything other than that.

LaBrujaPiruja · 12/10/2021 10:25

Because you said you were bemused!
(End of off-topic).

Quartz2208 · 12/10/2021 10:37

At you saying stop talking nonsense! Not at what you were saying which I didnt see that I had say anything against it.

But yes it is derailing a thread

We are waiting for insurance company , ours is more vague so looks ok but want final answer off them before we cancel

Another option is to move / change holiday. Because it's not within fortnight of holiday we would need to pay fees to do so.... but it's better than losing it all if insurance won't pay up

Hence we haven't cancelled yet until hear from insurance company

rookiemere · 12/10/2021 12:03

I wonder as well if insurance covers costs if you have the option to move flights.

DS 15 is due to have his PCR test tonight for a Friday departure and as he has a sore throat I'm working through worse case scenarios.

We have Easyjet flights and potentially they could be changed but at this point if we can't go I'd rather just take some money back, but I know that previous insurance company didn't offer that as an option if you could move them.

Whowherewhywhat · 12/10/2021 15:49

Just waiting to find out our options from insurance and travel agent, will let you know, hoping we have options!! 🤞

Good luck. My DS’s PCR has come back positive. Not sure what to do yet. We’re currently day 15 before travel.

Another one in the same situation awaiting a pcr. 17 days until we go away. Not yet covered by travel ins as not in the 14 days but also can't see how we would comply with the Spanish health form. Any updates greatly appreciated

This is a gap in the process ☹️ I’m thinking it would be easier if another one of us test positive in 2 days to take us within the 14 days on the insurance policy. Quite sure some people will say what do you expect were in a global pandemic etc etc, but for us it’s a much long after 2 years of absolute shit personal family tragedy.
Whowherewhywhat · 12/10/2021 18:07

What do I do if I have symptoms of acute respiratory infection or fever, or have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19? Can I fly?

If you have any of these symptoms: fever, shortness of breath or a cough, or have had contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to travel or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the past two weeks, you should abstain from going to the airport/port and contact the health services in your country of origin.

The above is from the Spanish gob website, it doesn’t mention close contact just not within 14days - I’ve asked a friend who is travelling in next couple of days what the health questions are, so we can make sure we either fit or not, the criteria….

rookiemere · 12/10/2021 18:23

I'm having a look at a pdf of the Spanish Locator form and it says you should not travel or if you have been diagnosed or have been in contact with someone diagnosed with covid 19 within the past 14 days. But if your DS was diagnosed at more than 14 days, the provided he tests negative, you should be ok to go I think.

Whowherewhywhat · 12/10/2021 18:30

*Rookimere yes that’s how I’m interpreting it, not that I’ve been in contact but the person I’ve been in contact t with ( though actually we have been isolating so no close contact) was diagnosed 15days ago, not 14 days or less, so therefore even though we have been in the same household together the positive PCR was more than 14 days ago

Whowherewhywhat · 12/10/2021 18:34

It’s both myself snd my son - I won’t need to text as double backed as is my hubby, DS2 and DD1 will have to test and DS 1 will have to test - that’s tje concern as have heard of lots of positives for a few weeks after getting COVID - only thing I could do is try dnd get a confirmation of COVID certificate - Spain would accept just not sure if the airline would…..

Watapalava · 12/10/2021 19:28

the way covid is ow, esp in schools, everyone is likely a contact of someone.

Ive flown 2x this summer inc last month and everyone in our family was a contact of someone. My dds have been a contact of 4/5 people evertday since Sept!

Noone will know if you click no to the answer

LaBrujaPiruja · 12/10/2021 19:41

Fine, maybe prosecution.

Risk of infecting other people.

Just to be clear… Would you recommend the same to tourists coming to the UK?

Watapalava · 12/10/2021 19:52

Yep

given high vax rates

Plus - more importantly - most contacts never go onto get covid - that's the reason contact isolation has stopped.

Can you send me the link to that please @rookiemere

I am looking at this link here

www.mscbs.gob.es/en/profesionales/saludPublica/sanidadExterior/CHS/Pdf/FCS_ingles_avion_111220.pdf

which says:

. Have you been in contact with a person that has been a confirmed case for COVID -19 during the last 14 days?

At this moment (ie within 14days of travel) I am in contact with my daughter and she is a confirmed case (until Friday!) but if this is not the right form please do tell me. Thanks so much

rookiemere · 12/10/2021 20:08

Hi I'm not sure how to share it here but I got it from a FB group called Covid 19 Travel test help and advice

rookiemere · 12/10/2021 20:13

Here's a link to the relevant post www.facebook.com/groups/192439932359902/posts/369319971338563

Whowherewhywhat · 12/10/2021 22:15

That’s a great site rookiemere - it’s been confirmed that the right interpretation of the Spanish form is contact with someone who has tested positive within the last 14 days not contact with someone he has COVID within the last 14 days ie if the person with COVID got the positive prior to 14 days before you fly, your ok.

Sorry I must be going mad Can you please confirm where that is on the Facebook page. I have been going round and round and can't see it 🙄

On page 4 of the pdf on the link it says you must not travel if close contact if confirmed case

I would really appreciate anything to the contrary!

Whowherewhywhat · 13/10/2021 00:43

I asked the question directly on the site and got the response directly
