The great South west PCR mystery

They say they investigating when we going to find out outcome?

inews.co.uk/news/covid-lateral-flow-tests-negative-pcr-1236141

Is it option

  1. faulty batch pcr tests only at South west drive through test centres? 2/ corruption or negligence at the local lab? Does the South west have 1 giant lab that processes bath/ Swindon and Bristol pcr tests
  2. some new varient that evades pcr tests like the one in France.

Are we even doing much genome sequencing these days?

We did have surge testing in Bristol last winter with varient e48k similar South Africa but that was pre delta.

We had massive cases in locally June and July.
Local r rate seems low currently despite so many off school and 2 Universitys return.

3 kids my child's year have postive lft but negative pcr.
We don't have any set date for covid jabs.
The school is not declaring any cases at all publicly..

Weirdly people saying home tests giving postive results.

That lft more likely to bring us false negative than postive..

Just makes me worried so much covid all over the region undetected with postives not isolating.

So many if these postive lft negative pcr seem to be school children.
ONS forecast 1 in 14 teens had covid last week yet all teens at our school with covid symptoms have negative pcr?

Yep 13th September here.... Temps for a good 4 days, coughs, but generally OK after a week.... But we did do both laterals and pcrs and they were all negative... Son passed it onto others at school but so far no positives

Wtf1980 · 17/10/2021 16:41

Ours is up by 221% in covid cases, and the ealiest was 21/9 for us, just says that there sorry and no need to re test.

Tinysnickers · 17/10/2021 17:22

We got a text for the 11th Sept but it says no further action.

LemonWeb · 17/10/2021 17:23

I live in the SW. All 3 of my dc now have covid, and several of my friends are in the same situation. Kids came into school with negative PCRs and infected anyone who hadn’t yet got it. Neither of my younger two have classic symptoms, just felt under the weather a bit and we tested. This is a massive fail for test and trace in our area which will have massive implications on covid rates. Thank goodness we have half term coming up.

mrshoho · 17/10/2021 18:01

We had a text from test and trace re pcr test we took on 29th September. We are in NW London so it's definitely not just a SW England issue. It's too late for us to check but I'm sure my Son did have Covid.

What did the text say given that it’s clearly too late?

There should be an option to get covid added to medical records in this case.hope your son recovered ok in the meantime.

Frazzled2207 · 17/10/2021 18:07

@Louiselady500

The news channels seem to have forgotten about this disaster already!!!
Sadly the news about the murdered mp was convenient timing for the government.

Unusual to have sthg in the news that we can’t blame the government for.

It's been going on over a month?!
mrshoho · 17/10/2021 18:15

I'll look into it but in the meantime he had his covid booster on Friday. So much for waiting 28 days!

The great South west PCR mystery
mrshoho · 17/10/2021 18:19

not booster I meant vaccine and went back to school after a week off.

Madcats · 17/10/2021 18:51

Regardless of whatever individual schools have done to manage this (which seems to be either proactive, or hands off) it strikes me that a great many schools in SW have had no visits from their school vaccine teams for Covid jabs.

I thought the plan was to have them all done and dusted by half term?

JanglyBeads · 17/10/2021 18:58

Only something like 15% of 12-15 yos have been done nationally, loads of schools haven’t been visited yet.

JanglyBeads · 17/10/2021 19:03

This graph (Stroud) is a good summary of the effect:

FuckingFabulous · 17/10/2021 19:52

My DS's secondary school has just closed completely to four year groups due to rampant Covid cases. My DD's has gone back to bubbles and masks. We've all had text messages from test and trace this evening about potentially inaccurate PCR results.

Well done, Tories. Giving herd immunity a go whether we like it or not, eh?

mrshoho · 17/10/2021 19:59

It's a disgrace. We are in more of a mess in our schools than at this point last year. So much for the government's great planning to prioritise Education!

everythingthelighttouches · 17/10/2021 20:01

We had a text today from test and trace to say a PCR result from 26th sept may have been wrong. No further action to take.
We’re in Leicestershire.

TroubleInSnowland · 17/10/2021 20:11

We’ve had messages from 12th and 13th September after positive LFTs. I spoke to 119 who told me the PCR was more sensitive and should pick it up and the LFT was wrong. I work in a research lab and told them the pcr was wrong and they were insistent that they were correct. I kept our positive case at home for the week so hopefully didn’t spread it around but unfortunately everyone else carried on as normal. School has a huge outbreak. I just don’t understand how this has happened. They should have controls at every stage and also should have noticed people phoning with positive lft and negative pcr.

LemonWeb · 17/10/2021 20:16

I had a text about a PCR test on 22/9 ‘there may have been an issue with the result’

And just had email from DC’s school saying that cases rising over the weekend and they’re going back to face coverings when moving about the school.

Tinysnickers · 17/10/2021 20:47

Our town is now crawling with it. I know so so many families with it now when since the very start it was hardly anyone. I'm just waiting for the email doom from the DC school. If they go remote I'm not doing it. I've just done 10 days at home, a week of remote learning would finish me off.

Itisasecret · 17/10/2021 21:21

Yeah, September here. I could’ve told you that. Loads of staff and children +ltf -PCR symptomatic. Back into school with a cold because the law/DfE demands it. It’s now too late in the SW. Schools are literally riddled. Half a dozen cases in each class minimum. Yes we have half term but all those families out mixing? By Christmas I fear we will be in a right state. We don’t have lots of hospital space; plus a lot of people visit Bath/Bristol in the autumn/winter. Even without markets.

It’s hard to know just how much damage has been done, unless you live here. All the pretence that it’s over are foolish. I would wish nothing more. Even I can see how shit everything is in the SW and how incredibly ill a lot of people are. We haven’t boosted enough vulnerable to cope. That will show by Christmas.

worriedatthemoment · 17/10/2021 21:29

@Frazzled2207 can they add it if not sure it was though ? We haven't had a text yt but ds1 had really bad cough and ill and tested negative in sw but we never done a lft , went straight for PCR
Ds2 now has covid , he has a blocked nose, slight sore throat one day and that was it, picked up purely on his lFT he does twice a week for college.
Myself, dh and ds2 both gone for covid tests today, wondering if ds1 tests positive Will it be from before or has he caught it , he still has cough nearly 4 weeks later so always meets cough criteria

Frazzled2207 · 17/10/2021 21:43

Obv in most cases you can be sure but there should be some acknowledgment made in your records that you probably had covid IMO.
Loads of these people probably will go on to have long covid- shameful that as it stands they don’t have a record of having had it. Unless they registered the positive LFT perhaps but I don’t know anyone that does that!

Frazzled2207 · 17/10/2021 21:43

Can’t be sure !

worriedatthemoment · 17/10/2021 22:05

@Frazzled2207 well your supposed yo register all your LFT , but def you should a positive
Some on here who think it may be wring though didn't have positive LFT , just symptoms etc but we do have to remember they could be other bugs as well
Should be a marker on records maybe that test may be wrong so if they develop long covid, guess if some can go and get a pcr now it may pick it up still , as they say about not taking one for so many days
But there def other coughs / colds around, my ds 2 has had about 3 in 8 weeks and tested negative foe covid of LFT and PCR until end of last week when he had just a slight blocked nose.
Ds1 still has horrendous cough 4 weeks later ( once household covid clear) I am taking him back as its just not going

Mellowfruitfulnessy · 17/10/2021 22:05

The numbers are surely going to rocket.

I can’t believe how this seems to have just been hushed up. Someone must know how this happened. Millions of pounds just siphoned off again with no accountability.

What’s the betting that the government choose this week to stop publishing the case numbers..?
