The great South west PCR mystery

They say they investigating when we going to find out outcome?

inews.co.uk/news/covid-lateral-flow-tests-negative-pcr-1236141

Is it option

 1. faulty batch pcr tests only at South west drive through test centres? 2/ corruption or negligence at the local lab? Does the South west have 1 giant lab that processes bath/ Swindon and Bristol pcr tests
 2. some new varient that evades pcr tests like the one in France.

Are we even doing much genome sequencing these days?

We did have surge testing in Bristol last winter with varient e48k similar South Africa but that was pre delta.

We had massive cases in locally June and July.
Local r rate seems low currently despite so many off school and 2 Universitys return.

3 kids my child's year have postive lft but negative pcr.
We don't have any set date for covid jabs.
The school is not declaring any cases at all publicly..

Weirdly people saying home tests giving postive results.

That lft more likely to bring us false negative than postive..

Just makes me worried so much covid all over the region undetected with postives not isolating.

So many if these postive lft negative pcr seem to be school children.
ONS forecast 1 in 14 teens had covid last week yet all teens at our school with covid symptoms have negative pcr?
@Languidblueseas agree, I know more people who have or have just had COVID atm than I have at any point other than March/April 2020 and our cuty has always had high rates compared to most places. The Zoe App estimates for our area are double the accepted government figure and I believe them!
Definitely. I'm in Wiltshire and two weeks ago our village statistics were off the charts on the gov website. This morning it's lower than the average, yet every other person I know here has had positive LFT and negative PCR but they're obviously sick!!

Itisasecret · 15/10/2021 10:42

@Wtf1980

They seem to be saying Newbury testing site nit really mentioning any others. Do people honestly believe this place and lab is the only one to be having problems with PCRs?
It's not, Swindon, Chippenham, Bristol, Bath, Glocs all the same.

I believe all testing sites in Swindon, Marlborough and Gloucestershire are also meant to be investigated because definitely some hospital employees have been quietly told not to visit them and have tests through work or by post alone. And to trust two LFTs as a positive result and isolate accordingly.
Mellowfruitfulnessy · 15/10/2021 10:45

Now Guardian lead story.

Karma1981 · 15/10/2021 10:48

I'm in the swindon area, and my dd had in the end 8 positive LFTs one neg PCR (drive through).
I then ordered postal PCR and came back Positive.
I kept her of school until I had the 2nd test done and luckily I did and she has isolated in her room.
Her school is riddled with it but a lot of children had a positive LFTs but came back to school when their PCR was neg (which they are not at fault).

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 11:02

Awaiting our pcr from yesterday and much longer than normal guess they have had to be sent elsewhere .

Fallagain · 15/10/2021 11:03

On the BBC too

Bennetgirl · 15/10/2021 11:07

This is just unbelievable. I honestly wonder if it was done on purpose to keep schools open.

The amount of kids at my dds school who have had a negative pcr after a positive lft is very high.

We all had negative pcrs even though we’ve had awful coughs and other symptoms. I’ve been in the Drs, maternity hospital and the dentist within a week of my negative.

Schulte · 15/10/2021 11:08

43,000 false negatives! Most of those presumably merrily out and about mixing with others. Can you imagine how many people this will spread to?

GoldChick · 15/10/2021 11:09

So many people falsely reassured :(

Immensa, the Wolverhampton lab is connected with Dante labs it seems who are already under investigation.

Gingernaut · 15/10/2021 11:11

Yup. The story is all over the online news sites - The Wolverhampton site processed the swabs from the south west.

This lab has form, too. Sorry about The Sun link

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 15/10/2021 11:21

No I think it's all over the country, there were definitely cases in my DD's class when she got covid back in mid Sept and we're in the west Midlands. People have been reporting this on MN for weeks and weeks.

But I don't think it's necessarily a conspiracy, I think it's the usual crap government throwing shedloads of money at dodgy companies without going through the appropriate tendering processes.

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 11:29

@Schulte don't think it said 43000 false negatives ? Isn't 43000 tests being looked at , can't assume all positive

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 11:31

@Bennetgirl there are other bugs as well though and if you had negative lft and pcr less likely you had it, yes some may of been missed but more likely if you had positive LFT
I think people need to remember there are other bugs also going round at this time of year

Wincher · 15/10/2021 11:36
@Schulte don't think it said 43000 false negatives ? Isn't 43000 tests being looked at , can't assume all positive
No, I think they are saying 400,000 tests were carried out so they are assuming roughly 43,000 false negatives from that number 😯

Ouchyhurt · 15/10/2021 11:40

Yep, that's what I read but can't see it now

Porcupineintherough · 15/10/2021 11:44

@worriedatthemoment sure but other bugs shouldnt lead to positive lateral flow tests

pinkcattydude · 15/10/2021 11:45

@worriedatthemoment we are the same, tested yesterday and waiting on results it’s only 24 hours but I hate the waiting

kinseymilhone · 15/10/2021 11:53

Follow up from earlier posts. Colleague has now tested positive on PCR. Whole family had multiple +LFTs followed by -PCRs x 2 (Bristol). They had all the classic covid symptoms but were reassured to continue with work/school as normal due to the neg PCRs.

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 11:57

@Porcupineintherough thats what i said if positive lateral flow then yes but if lft also negative could be another bug

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 12:03

@pinkcattydude we are assuming positive as he has had 2 positive lft , the rest of us all negative although ds 1 has cold symptoms, but he had a really bad bug / cold about 4 weeks ago that didn't shift for 2 weeks and he still has the cough.
His pcrs ( 2 ) were negative but he was in this time frame and we are in the southwest ?? I think we only did one lft as went for pcr due to the cough being a covid symptom and not using lft when symptomatic , I took him for a 2nd PCR as he just didn't shift and had all symptoms

Wagsandclaws · 15/10/2021 12:14

I've just had a message on my phone from test and trace saying that both boys need to go back for pcr tests as there is a chance that the results from the 11th are wrong. FINALLY!!

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 12:17

@Wagsandclaws are they back at school though ?

I just had that. I am ahead of them, thankfully. Otherwise I would have sent her back to school to reinfect everyone.

Teachers, school staff, school children and parents have been left very exposed. No doubt teachers deserve it according to MN.
