Bloody hell - covid booster and flu jab hell

Just a woe is me.

NHS worker. Had my covid booster and flu jab together on Friday - 1 in each arm. I feel DREADFUL. My arms are bruised and dead feeling - can't lift them up, carry stuff or drive etc and can't sleep - every time I move it's bloody agony.

I'm quite sensitive to jabs anyway. Previous covid jabs made me feel sick and headachy (not this time though) - but I'm always used to have my good arm free. Not this time - 1 in each arm is brutal!

I developed a painful frozen shoulder with severely restricted movement for ten months immediately following last year’s flu jab. Thankfully I’d insisted they put it in my right arm (I’m left handed), so I could still use my dominant arm and drive my car.
There is no way I am going to risk a jab in both arms this year. I live alone and would be really stuck with no functioning arm. They can put both in my right arm, 2 weeks apart.

Athinginitself · 10/10/2021 21:18

I had my flu jab yesterday morning woke up feeling absolutely dreadful today and been in bed all day, I always have side effects with vaccines tho (although thought I'd got away with it this time as felt fine last tonight) I'm glad I'm having my covid booster separately.

ahushkss · 10/10/2021 21:19

Had my flu jab last week, so side effects at all. Don't qualify for a covid booster so I can't comment on that.

frumpety · 10/10/2021 21:20

Thanks for the heads up @purpleflowerlegs , I had booked to have both on a day when I am working the next day, will re-schedule so its the day before my days off.

FreddieStandensBFF · 10/10/2021 21:24

Double jabbed on Tuesday. Fuzzy head for a couple of hours, slept like a log that night. Slightly achy on covid arm next day.

We're all different.

that happened to me too. Its called SIRVA and relates to the administration not the vaccine itself. www.racgp.org.au/afp/2016/may/don’t-aim-too-high-avoiding-shoulder-injury-related-to-vaccine-administration/

I'm guessing it was given in the wrong place? If you accidentally inject the joint space it can cause long term damage. Too low and you can hit the main nerve or artery. There's actually quite a small area of the arm that is suitable for IM injection and I'm so paranoid about giving them and causing damage as we hear so many people saying they had pain for months after. Everyone has different sized arms and it can be tricky to get the placement right.
Jigsawprison · 10/10/2021 21:26

Dc1 had 3rd covid vac this week had to be a week after any other vaccinations, which is what's happening in our area.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/10/2021 21:27

they are doing them together at my local hospital for staff

Dinnerisburnt · 10/10/2021 21:28

I had my Pfizer booster and flu jab on Thursday, was in bed all day Friday and still felt like shit yesterday, I am much better today. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

DebbieBustamove · 10/10/2021 21:32

I went to a pharmacy for my flu jab the other day but was told as I had recently had coronavirus (6 weeks ago) and suffered quite badly with it despite being double vaxxed (fatigue, head fog, joint pain) they wouldn't give it to me - they didn't give me a timescale for when I could have it done however, just told me to speak with my GP

Skinnyankles · 10/10/2021 21:38

I was offered the flu vaccine when I had the covid booster at the vaccination centre. As I had forgotten my work ID badge, they wouldn't do the flu.

I have never had any side effects from vaccine but felt really ropey after the covid booster. Flu like symptoms and I took myself off to bed.

Felt absolutely fine the next day though but I'm glad I didn't have both vaccines at the same time!

shinynewapple21 · 10/10/2021 21:38

I'm really surprised that they are doing this as when we had our first Covid vaccines there were signs up saying you shouldn't have your Covid vacc if you had had your flu jab in the last 7 days .

was that last year? there has been a LOT of research on it since then
NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 10/10/2021 22:12

I had my Pfizer booster yesterday and this is by far the worst side effects I've experienced.
Since this morning, a fever, fatigue and dizziness, nausea, aches and pains including chest pain, a headache and my arm is hurting so much I can't lift it.
Flu vaccine is a breeze for me, just a slightly sore arm for a bit.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be feeling better but it's really put me off having another one in future.

@MyMoneyIsAllSpent

Why? I've never had a flu jab. Are you vulnerable? If not then just why? I don't understand why healthy people don't trust their immune system. Just take care of yourself, eat well and exercise. I can't comment on the 'gene' therapy where the manufacturers are not accountable for adverse reactions, which would not be allowed to be administered without emergency laws! Widely google the benefits of pine needle tea. I urge you to, it's been used for hundreds of years. It's really rather refreshing.
Oh honestly, piss off back to whatever backwater you come from
FWBNC · 10/10/2021 22:56

@Belsizepark

When I went for my flu jab they wouldn’t give it you if you had had a Covid jab in the last two weeks. It looks like you’re not supposed to have them both on the same day. I hope you’re feeling better soon.
Our surgery we're doing both together, but not a single day before your 6 months, so I have to go back for my COVID jab, but plenty of people getting both.

If I'd been in the correct list I'd have had my original jab earlier and would have had my booster 2 weeks ago.

GreenLunchBox · 10/10/2021 22:59

@LadyLolaRuben

I was told by a vet 20 years ago never to have different vaccines on the same day as its asking too much of your body. Ive always taken that advice
Mental advice. Quite a lot of the childhood immunisations are combinations of several vaccines Confused
GreenLunchBox · 10/10/2021 23:07

Double jabbed on Saturday. Sore arm while I was trying to sleep last night and if anyone touched me today (especially the covid arm) but other than that I keep forgetting I've had them. I wasn't expecting to have any side effects as I'm usually fine with the flu and covid vaccines (apart from the sore arm).

shivermetimbers77 · 10/10/2021 23:28

I had flu jab and covid jab together a couple of weeks ago. Slightly dead arm for a day but otherwise totally fine. Sorry for those who felt bad afterwards, but just goes to show everyone is different.

TattySlippers · 10/10/2021 23:36

I’m CEV. I had my flu jab two weeks ago. My GP surgery have booked me in for booster Covid jab in 2 weeks time. My surgery won’t give the flu and covid jabs at the same time

expatmigrant · 10/10/2021 23:39

Also had both at the same time as working for NHS. No problems at all.
Did a 70 mile cycle the next day.
Have had a bit of a cold this week but so have many other people.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/10/2021 23:44

Tatty that's interesting. I'm CEV and immunosuppressed and nobody batted an eyelid at me having both together.

Winceybincey · 10/10/2021 23:46

Our babies have 6 different vaccines in one go. Actually I think it’s 8? I’m sure it’s fine to have both, but some people will react, just as some will react to just one of them.

You will be ok. Just think to yourself it’s out the way now.
