Bloody hell - covid booster and flu jab hell

Just a woe is me.

NHS worker. Had my covid booster and flu jab together on Friday - 1 in each arm. I feel DREADFUL. My arms are bruised and dead feeling - can't lift them up, carry stuff or drive etc and can't sleep - every time I move it's bloody agony.

I'm quite sensitive to jabs anyway. Previous covid jabs made me feel sick and headachy (not this time though) - but I'm always used to have my good arm free. Not this time - 1 in each arm is brutal!

Mine was the same I had my third booster and it's knocked the crap out of me. I feel like I have a golf ball size lump under my arm

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/10/2021 20:35

@LadyLolaRuben

I was told by a vet 20 years ago never to have different vaccines on the same day as its asking too much of your body. Ive always taken that advice
What about baby immunisations. They do 3 on one day.
Drinkyourweaklemondrink · 10/10/2021 20:36

I already had the tail end of the vile cold that's doing the rounds too

Yogawankonobi · 10/10/2021 20:39

I was really unwell afterwards.
Hope you feel better soon!

A vet? Does that particular vet vaccinate people too?

The MMR is three in one?

Also as far as I'm aware puppies & kittens have their primary course in one go, it's a combination of four different vaccines I think..

Hope you feel better very soon OP!

ChateauMargaux · 10/10/2021 20:44

I hope your arms feel better soon and you feel better too.

This information is important to share, it makes it easier to plan.

Knowing that the side effects of the vaccine could knock people out for 24 to 48 hours was a god send.

Sprostongreen21 · 10/10/2021 20:44

My trust is doing together we’ve been told it’s all approved and safe. My friends dad had his at gp together and a lady I know has had both of hers together at her gps too and they were both fine. We can choose them separately I’m still undecided but I’ll get the covid one first if I go separately. I didnt react much to previous Pfizer jabs a bit achy a slightly sore arm maybe a bit more tired etc. Flu jabs I don’t usually notice much side effects either to be honest.

ssd · 10/10/2021 20:46

I paid to have my flu jag last week. I've been ok with it but last year i felt really sick after it. I also felt a bit rubbish after the covid vaccines, so didn't fancy having 2 at the same time. Seems a no brainer to me.

itbemay1 · 10/10/2021 20:46

@VicSynix

I'm NHS, my particular bit (GP surgery) was told very firmly to have them separately! Had the flu one a couple of weeks ago, booster on Thursday, zero ill effects. A friend went to the mass vax centre for hers and was told off for booking them both for same day - should be at least 7 days between.

So yes, get your jabs, but if you have ever reacted to a flu jab or weren't well after your Covid vax, maybe don't have both on the same day.

Same here! Had COVID booster already, just waiting on flu jab
elfcat · 10/10/2021 20:47

I had both my jabs on Tuesday. Flu in the right arm and 3rd Covid in my left.

Both hurt but covid arm ached for around 48 hours but wasn't debilitating.
Despite being ill for a day after my second covid one, I have had no other symptoms at all this time

nordicnorth · 10/10/2021 20:49

@CrocodilesCry

Sympathies. However, really not a great idea to post IMO especially as a HCP.

The last thing we need is people being put off getting these jabs as we go into winter.

Bullshit! I'm a HCP and value these type of posts so I know what to expect and when I should schedule mine! I have mine booked for next week and I'm now going to change it so I have a day off afterwards. Thanks to the OP.
Dontstepinthecowpat · 10/10/2021 20:49

My trust is offering both together and I had them at the same time two weeks ago. Both arms ached a bit the following day but no where near as sore as my first two Covid jabs. Had to postpone my hep b booster though as it was booked within a week of flu/Covid.

crumblebug · 10/10/2021 20:52

I had both of mine together

2 achey arms for 48 hours, and I was very tired the day after, but that was it Smile

I would rather go through vaccine crappiness once than twice so was happy to have both together!

purpleflowerlegs · 10/10/2021 20:52

Thanks everyone.

Hoping for a good night sleep and feeling brighter tomorrow. I was the first in my team so hadn't heard from anyone else so I'm glad it's helpful for others to hear. Whole weekend has been a right off really and I'm not on duty tomorrow either thankfully.

GrealishHairband · 10/10/2021 20:56

I had both mine done together last week, was ok that day but by the evening both arms were really sore so had a restless nights kip trying to get comfy and the following day I started brightly but by lunchtime I was a shivering wreck on the sofa with a golf ball under my Covid arm. Following morning I was fine and dandy again. Glad to be done and dusted.

playingdevilsavocado · 10/10/2021 20:58

Had both on Friday too, I have been fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

StrongArm · 10/10/2021 21:00

Poor you! Hope you feel better soon

Dd (severe asthmatic) had her flu jab on Saturday and it totally knocked her out!

thats odd...its standard to give dogs all their boosters together at once and the same with babies and MMR. I'd say that vet was talking out of his orifice
Rupertpenrysmistress · 10/10/2021 21:03

NHS here too both jabs Friday, has horrible side effects from my first covid jab so was really worried. No problems at all and I went straight back to work. Worth having them though.

Babies have up to 4 jabs/10 vaccines in one go...

I am a HCP and I've not yet worked out what to do with mine this year, I am due the flu one now and covid Tuesday, but I'm working 6 days a week for the next 2 weeks and then have a week off so I'm thinking I'll have them before my week off so I don't mind if I need a few days rest!
I'm mostly vaccinating at the moment and having sore arms won't help...

RagzReturnsRebooted · 10/10/2021 21:09

That's odd, the advice I read (Green Book?) said it's only Shingles vaccine they won't let you have within a week of the covid booster now. Maybe they were being cautious?
YellowYewTree · 10/10/2021 21:10

Had both mine yesterday, today I feel awful. My flu arm is fine but my covid arm is heavy like last time.
I can live with that, it's the bone achingly tiredness that has got me today, I've hardly moved off the sofa.i feel like a zombie.
Our trust is encouraging both jabs on the same day, a few Dr's on the TV have said its fine to do.
Apparently if you have them separately you need to have 2 weeks in betweenConfused

Loubiemoo · 10/10/2021 21:15

If you are offered both vaccines, it's safe to have them at the same time.

Right. We wouldn't want people making medical decisions based on complete and accurate information, now would we? That would just be awful.
