I have exactly what is described in the above article. Lost my sense of taste and then it returned but this week I’ve had an over whelming smell of chemicals in my nose. It’s making me
Physically sick and unable to eat.

Is anyone else experienced similar

I had this! Then it changed to constantly smelling cigarette smoke and now my smell has mostly returned - 9 months after! It drove me mad - I didnt realise how hard ht was to lose that sense! Hopefully it returns quickly for you x

I lost taste and smell for around a week and a half then started to get them back but got a burnt rubber smell in nose, didn't put me off food but was very strange. Now after another week back to normal on taste and smell.

I had Covid in January and lost my sense of smell for about a week. It took about a month to get back to almost normal.

Yesterday though I realised I can not smell garlic. I'd suspected it for a little while but couldn't work out if the garlic I was using when cooking just didn't really smell or if the problem was my sense of smell.

Yesterday I got DH to smell the garlic I was cutting up and his eyes watered because it smelt so strong. I couldn't smell it at all. I got a tingling in my nose/sinuses after smelling it really hard but no garlic smell.

I know that's in no way as extreme or life affecting as the people in the BBC article but it really surprised me and made me a bit sad as I love the scent of garlic.

I’ve done some research and seems it’s
Called parasoma. It can happen months after Covid as the new connections are growing which were damaged by Covid. Apparently it can last a while. It’s driving me crazy and making me so sad. I can’t eat any chocolate or drink coffee.

I tested positive for covid in august, my smell and taste still isn’t back, my nose is still kind of stuffy/runny, although I am pregnant so not sure if I put it down to that now. I get the odd smell of cigarette smoke/fire and my husband did a bowl of hot water & olbas oil, his eyes was stinging he only did the slightest bit and my son could smell it throughout the whole house, I could not smell it in the slightest, it just made my eyes water.
I’m ready for my senses to come back😬😪

I had covid in March 2020, completely lost taste and smell for a month then it slowly came back over a few weeks. Then in august 2020 I started getting phantom smells and also things tasting and smelling wrong. I can’t remember when the phantom smells stopped but it took til this summer for everything to taste and smell right!
