Do we need a negative PCR to return to normal life?

And by that I mean if either of us are still feeling awful?

My DS seemed to be over it after 3 or 4 days. I'd say now his completely back to himself. Me on the otherhand have felt worse as the days go by. Currently on day 6 and I'd say from day 4 it has been rough. Thankfully no breathing problems but my whole body hurts. It feels like my head and neck are too heavy for my shoulders. My upper body is the worst but it's my whole body. My sinuses are on fire. Last night I barely slept. I was up from just before 4am. I have no energy but my DS is only 7 so I've needed to carry on. There has only been 1 day where he has slept for most of it.

Hopefully I start to feel better over these next few days and we can get back to school and work on Thursday but what if I still feel bad? Do you take another PCR or continue to isolate? In which case who agrees to the longer isolation because work and school will be expecting us back

No you don’t need to get a negative PCR, only if certain symptoms continue after the 10 days after testing positive. NHS page here www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/how-long-to-self-isolate/

No you don't take another test for 90 days as you may still test positive even when you are no longer contagious. If you still feel unwell after 10 days then you stay off until you feel well enough to go back.

No you don’t do further PCR tests as virus can stay in system for 90 days, although not contagious. If you still feel unwell after 10 days and still have symptoms particularly a high temperature then you should isolate further, you may need a sick note from doctors, depending on what your workplace ask for.

You aren't supposed to do another PCR, you can test positive up to 90 days after infection. You won't be contagious any more but if you still feel too ill to work then don't go back, see if you can get a sick note.

Thanks for your replies. Still feel awful here. I have another few days so hopefully I will start feeling better.

I had no idea about the still testing positive up to 90 days after.

Although I say we have been very lucky I wouldn't want this again anytime soon! But still, I count my lucky stars we didn't come off worse. I know someone who's Dad passed away this morning after fighting it for the last month
