11 year old tested positive, no symptoms, what to expect?

Dd tested positive with a lat flow on Monday, PCR the next day.

She hasn't had any standard symptoms, and at the moment seems completely fit and well 🤞🤞

In hindsight she had the odd day last week where she felt a bit sick and said her eyes hurt, so perhaps that's related.

Anyway, I don't want to be complacent that she's not going to get poorly with it, so was wondering what others experience has been with this age range. If she's on day 5 now post test and d still not ill is anything likely to change?

So far none of the rest of us have it 🤞🤞

This is happening to us right now apart from my dd is 7. All she is, is a bit tired. She doesn't have any other symptoms.

We're all still negative too. My son (6), DH and me. I'm extremely anxious as I've not been able to have the vaccine yet.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 08/10/2021 19:53

My daughter was the same. Headache one day, that was it. Nobody else got it either. She had also complained of sore eyes the week before, so I wonder if she had it for quite a few days before we thought to get her tested.

madkittylady · 08/10/2021 19:54

My DCs 10 & 12 had no symptoms whatsoever. Apart from boredom Grin

Etonmessisyum · 08/10/2021 19:59

11 year old currently has it, you’d never know anything was wrong with him.
Weirdly he had no symptoms but his brother had a high temp sore tummy and headache on Sunday so I had them tested, non symptomatic child is positive symptomatic child is negative. Their dad now has it, I got symptomatic child re tested so waiting for the result as must be wrong. They are isolating but younger child was only ill that afternoon and is absolutely fine and has been all week.

11 year old had it. His head hurt when he raised his eyebrow. I suggested not raising an eyebrow

MrsBungle · 08/10/2021 21:51

My 12yo is a week in. She’s fine. She had one day of really red eyes. Her sense of taste isn’t working as usual but she’s really fine in herself.

Magpie1976 · 08/10/2021 21:56

My dd12 had the sore eyes as her only symptom (not counting v tired as she'd stayed up late the night before testing)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/10/2021 22:01

8yo... headache for a few hours
10yo... nothing noticeable

We all went stir crazy over the 11 days at home...

puffylovett · 08/10/2021 22:05

12 yo - nausea, awful headache, mild temp and fatigue for a couple of days. Now he’s just grumpy and bored. He’s coughing occasionally but he does often get a viral cough with bugs anyway.
Dp double jabbed is awful with it and has been all week. Man flu drama.
Me unjabbed felt rotten for about 36 hours - temp achey and cough. Starting to feel better now though.
But obv it’s only been a few days so hard to say what the next few days will bring!

StormyTeacups · 09/10/2021 08:59

Interesting that a few have mentioned nausea and sore eyes, a few locally have too but test and Trace wouldn't accept them as symptoms

dd2 had it and was quiet poorly, at one point I had to ring the drs.

But if she's day 5 post pcr then hopefully thats as bad as it's going to get for her.

puffylovett · 09/10/2021 23:29

There’s 7 confirmed cases in DS class and every single one of them had nausea and bad headache as their main symptom.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 10/10/2021 07:22

DS2 (11) has it and other than a very occasional single cough you’d not know anything was wrong with him. He’s very much enjoying his time off school!

DH and I have both caught it from him and finding it much less pleasant unfortunately. DS1 has so far avoided it but it’s only a matter of time I imagine!

Test and trace asked me if my dd had experienced nausea and red eyes. They also asked if she’d had head aches.

StormyTeacups · 10/10/2021 19:44

Yes, they acknowledged it was common with kids but wouldn't use them to signify when the illness started.

My 12 year old has just had it, she had no symptoms for the first 3 days. First symptoms she had then were - burning nose, sore throat, slight cough, headache, fatigue. These lasted 4-5 days then she became really bunged up, came out in a rash and was v. Itchy all over. Around day 10 she just had some congestion and a sore throat and those symptoms have persevered until today. 111 have said she can return to school tomorrow.

All in all she’s been okay, quite mild really but just very up and down, one day she’s fine, the next she’s a bit rough, then fine again etc. she’s not particularly bothered and seems quite happy to have gotten it out of the way.

baxterstockman · 11/10/2021 15:38

11 year old son has it here. He had a mild headache for a few days before he tested positive. We tested him as he came home from school and still had a headache and said he had a bit of a sore throat too. Tested positive that day on LFT. Then PCR next day. Rest of us all negative. Five days later he has a very slight cough, same as someone else said, he just coughs once every now and again. Only other symptom is, he sounds like he has a cold but doesn't have a runny nose at all. Main issue is he is completely bored and desperate to be back in school!

Kittycatkitty · 12/10/2021 10:46

My 11 year old son had it before Christmas, you wouldn't even know he had it at all he was fine. He had coughed a few times randomly which is what made me book a test and it was positive. He also mentioned sore throat but he has autism and coped with it extremely well, loved the extra time off school. None of us got it or tested positive which is weird as I had symptoms 2 days later so booked a pcr which was negative and ive had lots of long covid symptoms since.

Itistimeforquiche · 22/10/2021 22:34

Slightly old thread now but wondering about the fatigue mentioned

My 14 yo hasn't got out of bed or eaten for 15 hrs now. Awaiting postal pcr as no way I'd get him in the car.

Otherwise lft is negative but I can't believe it's not covid tbh.

Some of his class have had it so seems likely.

Newnormal99 · 23/10/2021 06:27

@Itistimeforquiche

My 14yo has it. She woke with a headache then developed bit of fever in the morning. She was very lethargic and slept most of day 1. Ate a small bit of food in evening (so.24 hours from dinner night before). Less sleepy day 2 but again not really interested in food. (This is not usual for her!)

CantChatNow · 23/10/2021 08:07

My 11 year old dd was the same, one day she felt really tired and went to bed early but that was it. It’s now been nearly 4 weeks since the positive lfd and she had nothing else and was negative on lfd about 10 days past. My 5 year old son has it now and is the same (unlike me, who has it now and I am quite unwell!)

user1000000000009 · 23/10/2021 08:11

Dh and dd were symptomless. If they hadn't been tested because they were close contacts, I wouldn't have known they had it.
