Can I use nhs 2 day pcr for holiday to Spain

Hi there, I know that I need to book a PCR for all of us for two days after we get back from Spain (we live in England). I've booked the nhs 2 day test but I think I'm supposed to book and pay privately?

Also, do I need to book it before I go or can I wait until I'm out there in case the rules change to only needing a lateral flow test?

You cannot usr an NHS one, no. You need to book and pay for a private one before you leave as you need the special code to put in your passenger locator form before you depart.

Aposterhasnoname · 08/10/2021 14:43

You can’t use the nhs one but you can wait till you’re out there to book as you only need the booking number to complete your passenger return form.

TheWoleb · 08/10/2021 14:43

You cannot use an NHS one.
You say you've booked it already. How? You cant book an NHS test in advance. When you get a PCR from the NHS, you need to confirm that you have symptoms and they post it out straight away.

Have you lied to get free tests for all of you? And just plan to take them when you are back? That is shameful.

It's been very very clearly advertised that you must book privately and you need to show you've booked it before you can go.

Why on earth would you think that the NHS, which has been on its knees for the past decade and even more so over the past 2 years, should pay for your PCR tests for a holiday you don’t have to go on? Hmm

Aposterhasnoname · 08/10/2021 14:45

You do not need show you’ve booked it before you go. You can 100% book while you are out there. I’ve just got back and booked our tests while I was filling in the return to the uk forms out there.

Ozanj · 08/10/2021 14:47

It’s a waste of time getting the NHS test because it won’t be recognised and then you might be fined or forced to isolate. Just cancel them and book privately when you’re in Spain.

rubyslippers · 08/10/2021 14:48

As previous posters have said you cannot use NHS tests
You will need booking reference numbers for ten day 2 PCR as you need these for the passenger locator forms which you must complete before your return
You can use online testing such as Randox - we used a local pharmacy so there are plenty of
Options for you
Confused as to how you got NHS PCR tests for this ….

Payforatest · 08/10/2021 14:50

Do you mean you’ve booked an NHS PCR to GO to Spain?

A colleague got turned back from the airport recently because the county he was supposed to be going to wouldn’t have accepted the NHS result.

There were several people not allowed on the flight.

But no, you cannot use an NHS test for a holiday result.

rubyslippers · 08/10/2021 14:50

The critical thing you’ll need whenever you book is the reference numbers for the passenger locator forms
As I’m a bit of a stresser I booked everything before we went so I knew it was done

Whammyyammy · 08/10/2021 16:20

How nice it would be if we could use nhs ones....
I'm going to mallorca tomorrow, bought two random day 2 tests, ,£96, ordered yesterday, arrived today via dpd.

You need these non free tests as they email you a code for the passenger locator form, without that you won't be boarding at the other end to return

Whammyyammy · 08/10/2021 16:21

Randox, not random

Idontlike · 08/10/2021 16:54

Seriously? The NHS is in crisis and you want them to be paying out (materials, lab techs, admin) for your test so you can go on your hols?

Summersdreaming · 08/10/2021 20:55

How do people still not know this??

trumpisagit · 08/10/2021 21:49

But the day 2 return tests sound like they will be going soon.
You do need a paid PCR test to enter Spain if you are not double vaccinated (eg teenagers).

Tidyhousefornow · 09/10/2021 22:03

Thank you for your replies.

Turns out the free ones were not NHS at all, they were sent to us because we booked through On The Beach. Complete result as I hadn't even realised they were part of our package. Ten days in Spain, flight and hotel, £119 per person and we didn't even have to pay for the 2 day PCR tests.
Now all we need is some sunshine!

I think this was sarcasm.

Only if you have not have had both vaccines.
WiseUpJanetWeiss · 10/10/2021 19:01

Nope. If you’re coming back from an Amber list country you have to have a day 2 PCR. You need to self isolate and have a Day 8 test as well if you’re not fully vaccinated.
