Worried about my unvaccinated sister who has covid

She has just tested positive through a PCR test.
She refused to get vaccinated as she believed it would give her a blood clot.
I’m now scared for her.
She has a blocked nose and a cough, she says her chest feels tight. She’s tired and had a fever yesterday, but doesn’t have one today.
She has an oximeter (I bought her one) and so she’s been checking her 02 levels regularly. Currently they’re 98/99.
She is overweight also.

She lives alone, I’m so worried about her, I’m so angry at her for not getting vaccinated when she had the chance.

Sounds like some of my symptoms. I have just had Covid. Double vaccinated, overweight.

How old is she? The vast majority of people don’t end up either in hospital or on a ventilator.

There's no reason to believe she'll deteriorate and end up on a ventilator. Millions and millions of people had covid pre-vaccines and were fine.

I am the size of a planet and Covid was fairly mild for me unvaccinated.

I really hope she’ll be fine, you just read all these stories online about people, in their 30s and 40s who didn’t have the vaccine and ended up in hospital on a ventilator and then dead.

She’s statistically at pretty low risk of serious illness then. Fingers crossed for her.

At 33 with no underlying health conditions it is really unlikely she will get very ill. Even more unlikely she will be ill enough for hospital.

I can see how it is worrying when it is your loved one who is ill, but the chances of a health 33yo needing significant medical intervention is really minuscule. People write stories about younger people ending up in dead because it is so rare. If it happened a lot it wouldn't be news.

She’ll almost certainly be OK OP. I had covid in December last year. Aged 33, no vaccine available at that time. It was extremely mild. No long term effects whatsoever. One of my friends didn’t get the vaccine. Also 33. She’s just had covid. Bit of a cough, felt woozy headed & lost her taste & smell. She’s completely fine now.

I’m double vaxxed. Just tested positive again. I feel pretty awful, far worse than when I was unvaxxed 🙈 but while I feel pretty grim, it really is nothing concerning. I’m sure I’ll be fine.

I’d channel your anger elsewhere, not at your sister. She’s young, very low risk & it’s her body.

She's at lower risk than someone aged 60 whose double jabbed.

Those stories because they are so rare that they are newsworthy. The vast vast majority, like 99%+, of people that age without underlying conditions are absolutely fine.

Just because she's unvaccinated, doesn't automatically mean she'll suffer. I am unvaccinated and got covid (whilst pregnant too, for what it's worth). All I had was a runny nose and sneezing. I didn't feel unwell and it felt more minor than a cold. A vaccinated colleague had a tough time and needed more time off work, she was very poorly in comparison.
Try not to worry yourself.

Tbh, OP just sounds concerned. She bought her sister an oximeter. She wouldn't be doing that if she wasn't worried.

Her risk of a serious event (e.g. hospitalisation) is about the same as a double vaccinated 53 year old. I don't know whether that helps you to put it in context? It's a really, really low risk, because age is still a very key factor in your chance of having a bad outcome.

I'm sure she will be fine OP.

I had it before I was vaccinated (35) and felt rough but was fine, as was my asthmatic husband.

I don't know anyone in this age group who has had more than a mild illness. I know there are stories in the news but they are very, very rare.
