Faint positive on LFT

I've had an extremely faint positive on two of the newer LFT tests. Negative on the older ones. Has any one had this. Both DDs are showing negative on both tests.

Not sure if any one can see it in the photo, my partner says I have "line eyes" 🤣

How many LFTs are you doing? Why not get a PCR?

MummyOf4Kids · 07/10/2021 09:22

Can't see anything on that. Any line no matter how faint should be read as positive and needs a PCR to confirm

HunkyPunk · 07/10/2021 09:27

Ds was so sure he had CV (felt ill and had contact with people who had then PCR tested positive),) that he did 3 LFTs in the same day. The first two were negative, and the third had the faintest of lines, but sure enough his PCR was positive. Not sure if his LFTs were new or old tbh. I didn’t know they had changed?

Wowthisisreal · 07/10/2021 09:29

I can't see a line on that at all

WorriedGiraffe · 07/10/2021 09:32

I really can’t see a line on that. But I don’t no why you’d bother doing more than 1 either, just get a PCR, you need to anyway now you’ve had a positive so just forget about the LFTs. Maybe the older ones have lost sensitivity or something.

frenchiemummy92 · 07/10/2021 09:34

Yes they have changed them now. You don't need to swab your throat any more with these ones.

I'll book in for PCR. I don't feel unwell in any way. Slight headache but I put that down to lack of sleep 😴 .

@frenchiemummy92 I can see a line on that. I had the same situation last night. I can def see a faint line on mine but my husband swore there wasn't one. I think I'm well practiced after years of peering at pregnancy tests!
I've ordered a PCR too.
Best of luck.

Longdistance · 07/10/2021 09:38

I can’t see a line. Go get a PCR test.

FTMworrier · 07/10/2021 09:41

@frenchiemummy92 I can see a line on the 2nd picture.
Was in a similar situation a couple of months ago, only symptom - headache as if I needed more water and a very slight sniffle. PCR was positive

frenchiemummy92 · 07/10/2021 09:46

I've booked in for a PCR. So hopefully by tomorrow I'll know for sure. I really don't feel unwell and when DP caught it exactly the same time last October me and our two DDs didn't catch it. Hoping results will come fast.

We have had those and my ds had 3 positives and a negative in the throat ones 2 pcr later it was negative. I've had a few of those tests that have shown a line

SingingGoldfinch · 07/10/2021 11:27

How long after you've done the test are you looking at it? I find the new nasal swab LFTs can be more inclined to have evaporation lines after the 15 minute window in which you're supposed to read them.

frenchiemummy92 · 07/10/2021 15:14

I'm reading it within the time frame. Says 15-30 minutes on the instructions.

I've just had my results back and they are negative. In total I've had 5 faint positives on the LFT and only me out of 4 off us. I'm feeling unwell tonight and can't get to sleep but unsure if that's because I'm feeling stressed with the uncertainty of not knowing.

Surely 5 tests can't be wrong? From two different boxes? Wouldn't at least someone else's show a line too?

I'm sorry you're still feeling ill, OP. I know there have been issues in some areas of the country whereby people have been getting positive lateral flow tests but negative PCRs. It is believed that in these cases, the PCR results are a false negative. Public Health England (they've just changed their name but can't remember what the new one is!) are looking into it.

If you're still feeling bad in a day or two, it may be worth getting another PCR done to be on the safe side.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

frenchiemummy92 · 08/10/2021 14:32

@Glitterandunicorns I just feel a bit like I'm coming down with cold today. Both my children have colds although I've just been told by DD1s school she has to go for a PCR as a child in her class has a positive PCR
