Is this a positive lateral flow?

We’ve not caught covid before so not sure what’s what really but youngest was feeling poorly yesterday. Swollen tonsils and eyes and start of a cough so I assumed he had viral tonsillitis, plenty of rest and jelly and Ice cream and would call the doctor first thing Monday morning for his eye and just incase it was bacterial tonsillitis.
Did a lateral flow with him last night just incase and thought it was negative and left it on the side and got into bed.
Looked at it this morning and this is here.
Just done another test and a few minutes in it’s negative so far but this one didn’t show up straight away either.

Read this one within the 30 minute window for a more accurate result

Shouldbedoing · 03/10/2021 11:15

Decidedly positive, but if child is symptomatic, they should have a PCR

MegaClutterSlut · 03/10/2021 11:15

Looks positive to me, what's the latest one like now?

Thirtyrock39 · 03/10/2021 11:15

You need to check at thirty minutes, if the test definitely only had one live at 30 mins assume this is a void test .I have had a faint line come up after an hour (forgot to bin test) but from what I have read The test is void after thirty minutes - there's a few threads on here and everyone who went for follow up pcr tests following a 'late' positive tested negative on pcrs. It is confusing though as I've kept other lateral flows which have never had a speck of a second line later .

Yes true if a cough has started get a pcr anyway
CagneyNYPD1 · 03/10/2021 11:18

Yep, test again this morning and check after 30 mins. That said, we take regular LFTs and often they get left out on the side overnight. Not once have they then shown a second line. Often the dye will run but never has there been a second line. I would err on the side of caution and book a PCR anyway as your ds has a cough.

SolitaryTree · 03/10/2021 11:18

10 minutes in and the second one is clear so far.
Do we isolate and get a full test just incase?

@Thirtyrock39 I’m so silly, I didn’t look at last nights after 30 minutes. Just within 5 minutes and then we went to bed so I have no idea how long the line took to show.

If he has a cough you should get a PCR just to be safe. We've had very faint lines come up on LFT's way after the 30 minutes but they were real squinters and repeat LFT's and PCR were negative. The one in your pic is quite a clear line so I'd be erring on the side of caution.

Passthecake30 · 03/10/2021 11:31

Red eyes are also a symptom, as track and trace included these on a huge list.

CagneyNYPD1 · 03/10/2021 11:36

In that case, I would assume that last night's LFT was a positive and book a PCR test for today.

SolitaryTree · 03/10/2021 11:37

I’ve ordered a PCR test now. Second lateral flow still showing as negative but with the cough, sore throat and eyes I need to be sure.
Do we all as a household now self isolate?
I know this is probably obvious to most people but we’ve never had a positive lateral flow and I’m unsure on the rules.
We have an online shop coming on Tuesday, thank god! Is this still ok to take in?

@SolitaryTree - only the positive person needs to isolate, not close contacts. If the PCR is negative then your DS can stop isolating.

ColettesEarrings · 03/10/2021 11:45

If the rest of the household is either under 18yo 6mths or is 14 days double jabbed then they do not need to isolate. Any single jabbed or totally unvaccinated over 18yo 6mths adults must isolate.

Heartofglass12345 · 03/10/2021 11:52

@ColettesEarrings it depends where the OP lives. In Wales, if you turned 18 the day before you had contact with the positive case and you were unvaccinated/ only had one jab you would have to self isolate

JanglyBeads · 03/10/2021 11:53

Yes of course you can take the shopping in, how else would you be able to get food??

But as others have said, you don’t need to isolate anyway, presuming you are double jabbed plus a fortnight after.

SolitaryTree · 03/10/2021 11:54

Thank you. I am double jabbed and my eldest is 15 and had one jab so far so is also fine.
I’m so confused as to whether my youngest is positive or not.
We’ve all taken a lateral flow now this morning and so far all 3 are negative but youngest has got the sore throat, swollen red eyes and cough.
I suppose it’s just wait and see now but fingers crossed he’s ok and it’s just tonsillitis.

SolitaryTree · 03/10/2021 11:57

@JanglyBeads wasn’t sure if I had to isolate or not, if I did wasn’t sure if it was ok to have contact with a delivery driver.

We had a whole drama with a LFT looking positive in the morning. Read loads of old threads with quite a few people saying they then took a PCR and it was positive. So I did a PCR, fully expecting it to be positive, but it came back clear. I've since read of others having the same experience.

Basically I think the only way to know is to do a PCR.

JanglyBeads · 03/10/2021 16:56

I know we’ve all had to figure this sort of stuff out, sorry. But when you think about it, delivery people always step back after leaving something on the doorstep. And for an online shop you tell them you’re isolating in the comments box. They must have a protocol about ?asking you to close the door while they put down the next crate or something?

I’ll find out tomorrow when I have my first online delivery in isolation!

ponyclub1234 · 20/10/2021 19:58

I know this is an old thread but just wondering what the outcome to the PCR test was as I'm In the same situation with a lateral flow that was negative this afternoon but now when I've gone to bin it looks like a faint positive Confused
