Test & trace v NHS covid app

Thecatisboss · 02/10/2021 08:39

I had a positive covid last Sunday and got the result back on Monday morning. I didn't have any symptoms but got tested as a close contact as both DH and DD have covid.

I input my test result into the NHS app and it says my end of isolation is 6 October 23.59 however speaking to Test and Trace yesterday they've told me I have to isolate until midnight on the 7 October and the app is incorrect and they've had a few reports of this.

I wondered if anyone else has had this trouble with the app?

It's 10 days with day 0 being the first day or symptoms or positive test if no symptoms

That's what I thought, which would make day zero Sunday as that's when I got tested. Test and trace are insisting on an extra day - they said that their algorithm has said I'll be infectious till then!

They can't count:
Sun 26 = 0
Mon 27 = 1
Tues 28 = 2
Weds 29 = 3
Thurs 30 = 4
Fri 01 = 5
Sat 02 = 6
Sun 03 = 7
Mon 04 = 8
Tues 05 = 9
Weds 06 = 10 (midnight)

I think that's how it works, anyway.

@Cookerhood thanks that's precisely what I worked out! Glad it's not just me that worked it out like that. Doesn't help that Test and Trace are insisting I have to isolate until the 7th October at midnight or risk a fine. Next time they phone I'll ask them to explain it (which they won't be able to!) 😉

There is no appeal to what T&T say, and the law is "not doing what T&T say", so legally you need to isolate until they say so regardless of when that is or risk the penalties.

The penalties are very likely to be non-existent, so it probably doesn't matter much, but you're still supposed to do what they say, even if they make mistakes - which of course they do.

@sirfredfredgeorge yes I thought that too! I'll just have to explain to work I'll not be back till Friday as I can't do my job at home.
