Positive LFT and then negative LFT

I had two positive LFT yesterday and then went for a PCR - awaiting the result now.
I did another LFT just for fun and nothing. Not even a shadow of a line.
I’m pretty sure I’m doing it correctly, I’m doing the same as yesterday and they are nose ones so can’t really go wrong. Why would it now be negative? Just because they are unreliable?

I’d be interested to know your PCR result. I have had no positives on lateral flow at all but do have COVID. Tested negative on first PCR on Thursday last week (I had runny nose then resulting cough and so assumed it was just a cold when I had the negative result). Took another PCR onTues as DH had positive LFT on MondY night and also started with runny nose. Both of us tested positive on Tuesday.

However our kids didn’t and neither were any of their LFTs positive. This is despite DS2 starting with runny nose the day he took his PCR on Tues then coughing. We’re just waiting on a second PCR test for him as I can’t believe he doesn’t have COVID.

Don’t assume that if this PCR comes back negative then you’re in the clear. It seems to be developing into a clever virus which is giving some odd results on tests. Unless if you have more antibodies you have a lower viral load so tests aren’t picking it up until a certain point in the infection?

Lateral flows just aren't as sensitive at picking it up. So of people who have COVID, only one in two will get a positive LF test.

PCR far more effective. After a positive LF I would be very surprised if your PCR was negative.

It’s just weird because they were negative Tuesday and Wednesday, positive yesterday morning, and now negative again.
Just waiting on the PCR now.

I am positive on PCR but consistently negative on LFT's

MsMeNz · 01/10/2021 19:44

Ugh who knows we had two strong laterals with symptoms and yes a negative PCR. Very weird.

Noogar · 01/10/2021 20:47

You could experiment and do 100?

Noogar · 01/10/2021 20:47

Although thay would be a waste I guess

ParkheadParadise · 01/10/2021 20:57

I've had several negative results since Monday with LFT's. I feel like shit.
Positive LFT on Thursday. Waiting on PCR results. Can't believe how breathless I've become since yesterday.

Gemmie2021 · 02/10/2021 18:31

I've had a positive lft today. Also waiting PCR result. Husband and son both positive. I did another one for fun too and it's negative! To add to matters I had my covid booster yesterday so wondering if my immune system has just been supercharged and has reduced the viral load quicker than expected? No idea really. Interesting to see what PCR result is 🤔 feel unwell

My PCR was positive.
My LFT have remained negative.

My PCR was also positive.

My son has 2 (albeit) faint LFT’s, had a PCR. While waiting for the results he took 2 further LFT’s all positive and slightly stronger line but still greyish lines and not bold like the C line. Just had a negative PCR!

Knowing the low rates of false positives on LFT, I’ve now rebooked a PCR for tomorrow. It’s just very odd!

Gemmie2021 · 03/10/2021 04:54

PCR positive
