Whats the big deal with mixing with unvaccinated people?

This is genuine, its nit a debate whether to get the vaccine or not. I personally got them as fast as i could because I'm scared of covid. And i accept others can't due to health reasons and others won't cos they choose not to.

But i keep reading here questions about mixing with unvaccinated people. How others determine this is a mystery to me.

Ive know vaccinated people still catch and spread covid. Having the vaccine doesn't stop that. It just hopefully stops you getting more ill if you catch it. So why the anxiety over mixing with unvaccinated people??
I genuinely dont get it. Has it been proved somewhere that unvaccinated people spread it more??? I've missed it if it has.

@Grannycurls I think you need a strong drink and a sit down to calm down.

Grannycurls · 10/10/2021 07:56

I am very calm. I am a long term meditator!
Nothing upsets me. But it would be good to know where we stand!

Grannycurls · 10/10/2021 07:58

Also, I do not drink. At least, not alcohol!

We should all look at these issues with detachment and objectivity. Or do you think I should not even ask?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/10/2021 08:01

@debbs77

Something to consider.....

If the vaccine is only 70% effective, why are so many giving up their masks?

If the contraceptive pill was only 70% effective, we would all use condoms too!

An unwanted pregnancy is a bit different to having what is mostly a mild virus for a few days.
Grannycurls · 10/10/2021 08:02

"If I can execute a 'Final Solution' for these anti vax kunts, I would do it. Ignorant and selfish people!!!"

Original quote, word for word, by a friend of a friend on Facebook. Another person I know on another forum said something similar, but I did not make a note of it.
So yes, indeed I am asking personal questions.

EmmaOvary · 10/10/2021 08:03

@Grannycurls it is your absolute right to ask whatever questions you wish. It is also my right to find your thinking utterly bonkers.
@Grannycurls it is your absolute right to ask whatever questions you wish. It is also my right to find your thinking utterly bonkers.
But why? As I said, all of these measures have been implemented here or there across the world.

Do you think the measures themselves are bonkers? Or I'm bonkers for taking note, and writing about it?

What exactly are bonkers? Just saying something is bonkers isn't a discussion or an argument, you know.

These measures are being done.

The one about eviction from homes: There's a Youtube video, a social experiment, in which a guy pretended to be opening a petition for people to be evicted. You would not believe how many people agreed that the non-vaxed should "go and live under a bridge". This was in the USA. People couldn't wait to sign.

So I am asking. Do mumsnetters agree with this? Yes or no?

Papertrain63 · 10/10/2021 08:57

The risk of ending up of ICU is far higher if you have not had the vax. The element of taking things for granted if we locked down again.... I would think it had something to do with those won't are not complying for a start OP.

Grannycurls · 10/10/2021 08:58

OH! I just googled and saw that eviction on non-vaxed is a real thing, at least proposed, in Florida!

These are uncomfortable questions, I know, @EmmaOvary, but they do have to be asked.

@DressedUpAtAnIvy

People who can get vaccinated but choose not to are telling you something about themselves and their attitude to risk, their social conscience and their understanding of Covid. That makes people trust them less.
I’ve never read something so utterly ridiculous.

The government and in turn the media are causing this awful divide in society and some people seem to be falling for it.

How would you feel if you were in an accident or something that you required help and the only person who came to help you had not received any injections? Would you refuse their help? Would you want their medical history before they helped you?
If it was me, personally I would not care less what their medical history is, it’s not any of my business. I would know that I would trust them and know that they obviously have a caring attitude and social conscience.

Do you see that this can go on forever and around in circles if people allow this divide in society to continue.

@Grannycurls

@Sugarandtime

I agree with both of you. I didn't want to silently agree and then be too scared to post my support, like many are doing.

The mystery is, how come MNetters are so quick to point out the illogicality of the GC/TW issue, and yet cannot see that that illogical, unscientific nonsense is also being churned out about this?

Maskless · 10/10/2021 12:18

Why do people care about others' vaccine status?

If you have been vaccinated then you are protected. That is all you need to know.

Stop bullying other people.

Maskless · 10/10/2021 12:21

Before covid, did you demand to know elderly people's flu-jab status before sitting next to them on the bus, or standing in a queue with them at Tesco?

I know, how dreadful it is that people make different risk assessments about things, and have different views. Terrible.

As for the social conscience nonsense, will people stop it. People get vaccinated for their own benefit, not because they care about the elderly neighbour down the road (who should have got vaccinated her- or himself way before most people on MN were eligible).

It's all very stupid given that people send their children to school and have no idea whether other peoples' kids have had their childhood vaccinations. For some reason covid is different. It isn't. Get vaccinated yourself, get your booster if eligible, wear a mask indoors and stop poking your nose in other people's private health business.

Precisely.
