3rd vaccine/booster reaction, immunosupressed.

Anyone here had a 3rd vaccine yet (as for immunosupressed etc)? I am immunosupressed, had my pfizer on Monday. I had astra zeneca first twice, last one in March. For context I take azathioprine daily and pred x4 a year roughly, high doses.

Just a heads up that if you had no reaction to the first two, you may well still be flawed by the 3rd. I know it's variable, but I really wasn't expecting it and wish I'd booked it for a weekend. I was ill for 48 hours, and the headache was bad enough for me to consider calling 999! I've never called 999 for me, but I was so close. I ended up sat on the stairs crying lol. Only lasted 48 hours, but it was brutal. Just thought I'd put that out there for others who may be contemplating having the vaccine and happily plodding to work the next day as I did.

I’m the only one in my household who has had AZ. My DH and DS’s have all had Pfizer. I was fine with AZ, but my husband was really tired and achy, as was DS2. I hope when I get mine, it won’t be so bad, but at least I can be prepared.

PheasantsNest · 30/09/2021 10:33

Had my 3rd Primary Az on Saturday. Only side effect was a sore arm for two days.

Mickarooni · 30/09/2021 10:47

I’m glad mine is booked for a weekend. Sorry you’ve been so poorly. :( I had absolutely no reaction to the first 2 AZ.

ohnotanotherusername · 30/09/2021 10:58

@PheasantsNest

Had my 3rd Primary Az on Saturday. Only side effect was a sore arm for two days.

Can you clarify, you managed to get AZ for your booster?

PheasantsNest · 30/09/2021 11:09

@ohnotanotherusername my third primary yes.

housemdwaswrong · 30/09/2021 20:59

@mickarooni were.aweekend was a good choice. My az were fine..though this latest reaction does make me wo b der if I'd had an immune response at all to the az jab, considering I felt like death this time. Thank you for your kind post. :) oddly reassuring to feel so rough though I guess.

@pheasantsnest they're not doing az here at all anymore for over 18s. You did well!

@mindymono I wish I'd known the possibilities hence the post. I'd heard other a saying they felt a bit bleugh, but I was totally incapacitated. Whether it's the lupus, the meds, or just me, who knows? Hopefully you'll be a bit ick and nothing else. Fingers crossed. :)

Following - Interesting to know. I’m also on azathioprine, haven’t been offered my extra jab yet!
Hope you’re feeling better now OP!

Senso21 · 30/09/2021 21:38

Can I ask what dosage of aza you’re on? I think I read somewhere that if you’re on under a certain dose it won’t be offered?

PheasantsNest · 30/09/2021 21:43

I'm on 200mg Azathioprine daily.

housemdwaswrong · 30/09/2021 21:46

@senso21 I take 150mg of aza.

OP posts:
Senso21 · 30/09/2021 21:48

Ah I’m on 100mg. Wonder if I’m below the qualifying amount?

PheasantsNest · 30/09/2021 21:55

This is what it says in the green book: azathioprine >3.0mg/kg/day.

Mickarooni · 30/09/2021 22:10

@housemdwaswrong
How are you feeling now? Flowers

Anecdotally, I’ve heard Pfizer was the preferred option for immune compromised people, so fingers crossed.

housemdwaswrong · 30/09/2021 22:43

Hmm. I'm not on more than that, I'm overweight so that would be over the recommended dose for me. Maybe it was the steroid use that tipped it? I had heavy steroid use last year before they put my aza up, from March, I took a month of 40mg, and a month of 20, then a break for a a month, then a month of 30 befpre tapering 5 a fortnight. So I was on loads.

@Mickarooni I'm feeling okay now thanks. Fragile, but okay. I'm relived the joint flare up was very short lived, not a 'proper' flare. :) Maybe it was that it was pfizer. It kicked my butt goo x and proper. That will teach me to be so complacent. :)

Excuse typos, they are constant on phone.

CiderWithLizzie · 30/09/2021 22:55

Maybe your reaction was due to having AZ then Pfizer- think mixing vaccines causes more side effects but hopefully a good immune response.

housemdwaswrong · 03/10/2021 11:48

Hi @ciderwithlizzie. Quite possibly. I'm going to get an antibody test after a fortnight passes, which tests the spike protein, and also gives a result in figures between 0 (I think) and 2500 to indicate strength of response. Hopefully it will have been worth it!

I had my first Pfizer after 2 AZ recently and it did give me a mildly sore arm plus I was very tired for a day. I did have my flu jab at the same time so it was a lot for my trashed immune system to deal with in one go.
Arm wasn't as sore as it was with my first AZ.

Mickarooni · 03/10/2021 13:06

I had the Pfizer third primary (I have an immunodeficiency) and apart from a very mildly sore arm, I had absolutely no side effects. I had a mildly sore arm after the AstraZeneca ones and no side effects earlier this year.

housemdwaswrong · 03/10/2021 18:46

Maybe I was just unlucky then. Have my flu jab Wednesday, everything crossed for no repeat performance!

Has my pfeizer booster yesterday, other than a sore arm I’ve been fine. Pfeizer for my first two.
