Do we know the long term plan for boosters?
I'll be 50 next February so do you think I'll get called at that time for my booster?
Are they still going to be doing them then?

I doubt if anyone is planning that far ahead. It will depend on what happens this Winter I'd have thought.

They are only just starting boosters for the very first people who were vaccinated, now. I think we'll have to wait and see.

Probably a few weeks before your birthday, if things go according to plan. When they were doing the age group just before my mine, I began looking on the NHS website each day to see if the system would allow me to book. One day, about 3 months before my 60th birthday the system suddenly accepted my date of birth as being valid to book both jabs, and when I had the first jab I was still around 1 month younger than the cut off point, but the system allowed people to be proactive and book slightly in advance. I got my invite letter about 3 weeks after I'd had my first jab. So, it pays to be proactive.

Currently they seem to be doing the most vulnerable group, i.e very elderly and CEV, along with NHS workers. The system says anyone over 50 is eligible for the booster, but they are telling people to wait until they receive their invite letter/text, so I'm assuming that once they have worked their way through the top priority groups the system will start opening up for those in their 50s and 60s, even if the letters haven't gone out yet. I'm not attempting to jump the queue but will keep an eye on the news and probably try my luck in December, which will be 6 months after my first jab. We are so lucky to have a great vaccination programme. Case numbers are high but fatality numbers are much lower than when we previously had such high case numbers - mostly thanks to the vaccine (plus some naturally acquired immunity).

I'm wondering this too about booster jabs. I turned 50 over the summer so now eligible for a booster, apparently. But I had AZ and I don't think this is being offered anymore. If and when I have a booster, what is it likely to be?

UrbanRambler · 29/09/2021 01:05

Sorry, that should say that in December it will be 6 months since my 2nd jab (I think they said that immunity drops slightly after 6 months).

Snozzlemaid · 29/09/2021 07:24

Thanks. I'm at 6 months since my second dose in a couple of weeks. I have two colleagues who are early 50's who have been called for theirs so they don't appear to be working down the age ranges here.

It's when you quaint by occupation (health/care) CEV/CV or age, and it is 6 months since the end of your primary course - that's 2 jabs for most people.

CiderWithLizzie · 29/09/2021 07:44

Anyone over 50 who is 6 months post their second jab can book on the online system.

TreaslakeandBack · 29/09/2021 07:50

Boosters all Pfizer @TonyThreePies with the possibility of half doses of Moderna in future.
AZ May be available later for those who can’t have Pfizer due to allergy.

Well, out of curiosity I just tried, and the system says I'm not eligible (south coast town). Perhaps it varies by location.
UrbanRambler · 30/09/2021 20:06

Oops, ignore my last post, I got confused. I'm 6 months post 1st jab... but need to wait till December when I'll be 6 months post 2nd jab. Sometimes I'm such a dummy. Blush

Parky04 · 30/09/2021 20:12

I had my booster jab today. I'm 50 and had my second jab in March.
