Leg cramps

On day 14 of covid and last few days I have been getting leg cramps and wondered if anyone else had got these and if they had found a solution other than just painkillers. Double vaccd az last one in July, late 40s asthmatic. First week was very heavy cold, terrible cough with mucuos making breathing difficult through nose and mouth and oximeter going to 93 or 94 when lying so had to sit up then second week very gastric symptoms and dizziness, no taste or smell, now starting third week and adding leg cramps, like type you get when swim too much to that mix. No idea what is causing that. Just wandered if this is all part of the joys of covid or sign of something else. I have taken vitamin tablets not everyday but every few days though possible am low in maybe calcium but any dairy makes me sick. Diet has been a bit all over place with no taste or smell but quite a lot of veg. Thanks.

I’m on day 11 and have started leg cramps today.

Thanks may well just be part of it then. Quite depressing how long it is lasting.

I still have leg cramp 2 months after covid.

shouldistop · 27/09/2021 20:14

Could you be dehydrated? I get leg cramps if I'm dehydrated.

Silkiescatz · 27/09/2021 20:30

Thanks both - sorry to hear you have them for 2 months Ilove

I have wondered about dehydration, I am trying to drink enough but also getting sick a lot so maybe losing fluids like that. Will try boosting them and see if it goes. My sleep is all over the place which isn't helping.

I get leg cramps if my magnesium drops. I take Magnesium malate daily and that keeps them away.

shouldistop · 27/09/2021 21:09

Could you try a rehydration sachet?

HSHorror · 27/09/2021 23:35

Agree rehydration sachet.

Potassium deficit? Banana a day will sort it.

Silkiescatz · 28/09/2021 01:39

Thanks very much. I had not heard of rehydration sachets but that sounds like a good idea. Will try and get hold of some tomorrow or order them online. I have tried drinking more and that is helping me feel less out of it, still have the cramps but maybe if I add some minerals / vitamins they will go. I have had them for magnesium in past as well, the vitamin I had did have some magnesium in but maybe not enough as it said 27% of RDA and was only taking one every 3 days or so. Will try bananas as well. Thanks very much.

Thanks very much - the leg cramps have now stopped. I drank more which made me feel more with it but still had cramps so looked what was in the rehydration sachets as we are in a village so couldn't get them straightaway. It listed 3 things, first was salt so I tried crisps and when I woke up the cramps had gone. I am trying foods with the other two listed things as well, so just had avocado so it does seem it caused by a lack of vitamins / minerals and need to drink more. Must be from having gastric symptoms so long. Great to have one thing solved.

Really interesting as DH has these on day 9 of Covid. I’ll suggest your solutions. Thank you!
