8year old DS identified as close contact - confused by school letter

Earlier I received an email from school advising me that my 8 year old has been identified as close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID. The letter strongly advises getting him a PCR however when I’ve tried to do this online I get told I can’t as he has no symptoms. The link that school put in the email to book a PCR test does not work and all the guidance the school website links to is now out of date.

Am I supposed to just do a LFT and if so, why are school insisting on a PCR? Sorry to be dense, I’ve been trawling through all the I
I could find but so many documents are out of date now.

If you click no to symptoms and to the next couple you will get the following options

I've been told to get a test by my nursery, work or place of education

I’ve been told to get a test by my local council, health protection team or healthcare professional

The second one works and just click you have been asked (which you have been)

@Quartz2208 thank you for your reply. I’ve just been going round in circles.

Go to the online Gov.uk get a covid test page, and just answer the questions. I've literally just tried, and it allows to to say no to symptoms, no to a load of other things, then yes to I'm close contact, not through test and trace. I stopped after it asked for my name. Is it kicking you out after that?

Just say he’s got symptoms then !
I thought all this had stopped now ? My DD isn’t doing PCR’s for school.

My DD isn’t doing PCR’s for school.

Why would she unless she has been told she is a close contact?

I mean LFT’s ! Getting my letters mixed up

Sorted, thanks all. I hadn’t wanted to say he had symptoms when he actually doesn’t. All sorted now.
