Just had an email from dc school. Public Health England have said due to the high level of cases masks are now compulsory again. We have 56 cases. I was wondering if anyone else's school have taken this step?

My friend's daughter's school have, but they have 200 cases amongst staff and students including a whole tutor group of 30 positive. They are also closing one year group per day as they don't have enough staff to teach them all.

Where there is an outbreak, this s part of a school reverting to their contingency plan as part of DfE guidance and where advised by Public Health.

DD's year (10) were asked to wear masks after being back 4 days.

Not sure whether she's still wearing them as I think the number of kids testing +ve has calmed down.

OddestSock · 27/09/2021 08:45

Mine is back to wearing masks in corridors etc

Mykittensmittens · 27/09/2021 09:03

Yes.

Although with 18 cases in one year group, implementing masks as of tomorrow when most tested positive over a week ago and all have had a PCR since then on the schools request, it’s a tad horse/stable door to me. Maybe a week ago when the cases were reported would have been slightly more useful Hmm

I'm guessing this is what will happen in DDs school. Too little far far too late to prevent the damage. It's the way in the UK seemingly.

Like the too late vaccination for 12-15 year olds when they could have had most who wanted the vaccine vaccinated well before school return if they'd done it in the summer holiday. They needed to wait YET AGAIN for the 2+2=4 of covid, indoors, with unvaccinated children = shitshow for education to play out AGAIN before they did anything.

Prioritising children's education my arse.

Mykittensmittens · 27/09/2021 09:22

@theemperorhasnoclothes agreed.

I KNOW this isn’t the case for all (so don’t flame me), not for all years/ages and not for all schools, but my DCs school was exemplary with online home learning and would be happy to continue with sibling isolation within positive households. I am friends with the Head and I know this. But she is advised not to do this.

As a result she has kids coming in with positive siblings. She’s asks the parents if they are doing LFTs and she is told yes. She asks the kids and they say no!!! It’s spread like wildfire. Every year group has so many cases and the PHE aren’t even ‘linking’ them unless everyone names everyone else to T&T (how many parents just say ‘I don’t know who Tarquin was sitting near, sorry’).

motherrunner · 27/09/2021 10:10

Yes, we’re back in masks and last week we sent a year group home.

Retrievemysanity · 27/09/2021 10:17

DD’s special school is asking for daily lateral flow tests and masks if possible.

StormyCornishSeas · 27/09/2021 10:20

Our school never stopped wearing masks in corridors. So been like it was last term
Since the start of this term

DumplingsAndStew · 27/09/2021 11:34

Ours never stopped.

mum2jakie · 27/09/2021 11:35

Yes one of my kid's schools reintroduced them after the first week back and the other from today

Wellbythebloodyhell · 27/09/2021 13:04

The year group sent home were they required to isolate or just learn from home for a short time? It's so confusing with the narrative being u18s don't need to isolate if a contact
blameitonthecaffeine · 27/09/2021 13:28

No but we have a small handful of children and one staff member who have just started to wear them again voluntarily.

motherrunner · 27/09/2021 16:20

@Wellbythebloodyhell PHE advised all students in affected year groups to be send home and have a PCR before returning.

motherrunner · 27/09/2021 16:20

Year group - just one.

MargaretLove · 27/09/2021 16:30

Masks in corridors is back here. Seems like there's been a huge increase in cases over the weekend - including my own dc 😬

herecomesthsun · 27/09/2021 16:34

sorry to hear that

Ours have reinstated masks since last Thursday as they have loads off with covid. Including my daughter. But it's only in hallways and on the bus.
