Positive (faint) lateral flow… do I need a PCR test now?

Going to do another LF to double check, but just been on the website and it’s still saying you can only order a PCR if you have some of the main symptoms, which I don’t. I have a runny nose and a bit of a scratchy throat but nothing else.

You have to do a PCR if you have a + LFT.
If you have symptoms then you only do a PCR not an LFT.

Yes you can order a pcr with a positive lft (which you have, even if it's faint, it's better to check with a pcr)
The contact tracer told me that there are myriad symptoms for the delta variant - many of which aren't the main 3 on the website.

Bubblepop24 · 22/09/2021 12:23

The 'symptoms' the government list are outdated - main initial symptoms are more cold like. Besides they don't check what your symptoms are when you test.
So yes, go for a PCR!

Thanks, I thought that was the case. Any pointers as to which boxes to tick to order a PCR? And do I need to get one for 15yo ds?

Doing another LFT is completely pointless.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 22/09/2021 12:33

You can order for everyone in your household. Have you recorded the LFT on the NHS website as it took me straight through.

DD got a very strong +ve recently and didn't show any of the main three symptoms untill day 3 she was just tired with cold symptoms to begin with.

thewhatsit · 22/09/2021 12:35

It absolutely does not say you need to have one of the 3 symptoms.

I started with a runny nose and scratchy throat. Then I did a positive lateral flow and I realised I couldn't smell anything either. Positive PCR confirmed it. I've not been very ill with it though, I'm so glad I'm double jabbed.

Ordering one now. Ds has no symptoms - does he just go to school as normal?

If the PCR comes back +ve be prepared for the T&T phone calls.

You need the name and NHS number, if you know it for everyone that lives with you. Then the names and contact details of anyone, any institutions or businesses you have been near or in. In the 48hrs before your test and details for anyone whose visited your home. Then you have to go through anywhere youve been to in the 7 days before the test so they can look to see if there's a point of outbreak/where you caught it from.

I didn't know alot of the details which was fine and had to dig out DDs red book and my vaccination record for our NHS numbers but better to have it written down in front of you. Especially other people contact info and addresses if you've been anywhere. Fortunately we had had a low key week and DD had only been to school and one after school group.

Ds17 had a very faint +LFT, which I was slightly sceptical about Blush. That was his 3rd of the day, as the previous 2 were negative, but he was convinced he’d got it, as he was feeling really rough with ‘heavy cold’ symptoms. I was hoping a cold was all it was, but his PCR came back positive Sad
