So angry with these parents

I’ve almost posted this a few times today but stopped myself but I’m posting it now as im really looking back on today in anger 🤬🤬

I’m a childminder. Today I picked up a child from school nursery - got a hacking cough all the way home!!!!! Rang school - allegedly child hasn’t coughed this morning and in any event they are under no obligation to ask parents to do PCR if child has a cough, it’s up to parent as to whether they send in or not!!! I ring parent - ah yes child has had cough for two days 😭

I’ve sent her home and said PCR before she can come back. I’m absolutely furious and can’t believe anyone thinks this is acceptable! No wonder we are where we are. I’m all for schools being kept open but not like this!!!

I have children in my class with terrible coughs. Parents tell me they've been tested. Kids tell me they haven't. Not a lot I can do about it really but yeah it is crap. When we tell SLT they have coughs they tell us to take their temp and if normal they can stay. So just give up and getting on with it. I'm not really bothered but my TA is worried.

My daughter coughs like this. Will cough ALL night & then nothing all morning & then it picks up again as the day wears on. She’s been like it since she was a baby. Possible asthma. It may not be that the nursery is lying, she may not have coughed much while there.

Parents should test. I had to test DD on Saturday as a new cough. Not covid, is in school coughing 🙈

To be honest, I know loadsa kids who’ve had covid & none of them had bad coughs, if a cough at all. It’s only anecdotal of course but I bet she just has a autumn/winter virus!

Lots of coughing in my classroom today but they all swear they are testing with lateral flow. I told a couple they need PCR if they keep coughing but to be honest I'm resigned to catching it now. So many cases.

We have caught two REALLY nasty viruses in this house following two separate incidents like this recently.
We went to a very small toddlers soft play area where a kid was coughing and spluttering all over the place. Really nasty cough and too young to cover his mouth or anything. Just running around coughing in other kids faces and drooling etc all over the soft play. Two days later our whole house was sick as dogs.
Then last week we were in an outdoor playground during school hours and alongside all the toddlers there was one older boy of maybe 9/10. Mum was chatting on phone saying that she had him at the park because school were refusing to take him back until he had a test for his cough and temp. She was refusing to test him so he was off school and ‘doing her head in’ at home so they were at the park and going to THE CINEMA later Hmm Her kid had a pretty brutal cough and was pissing me off anyway because he kept hanging around on the younger kid equipment he was far too big for, seemingly being entertained by not letting my two year old past to go down the slide etc.
Again, our whole house is now really unwell with a viral. I’ve never seen my toddler so sick in her life. It’s the closest I’ve come to taking her to A&E. I’m very unwell myself with it and now my newborn seems to be starting off too.

I can definitely not claim to be sure of where/how we caught either virus. I know that would be ridiculous. But it’s weirdly coincidental and I actually miss when people were keeping their actively sick children at home instead of deciding it’s ‘just a cold’ and taking them out to spread it to the masses.

My 3 year old had a cough a couple of weeks ago and I kept them off nursery until we got the PCR test results (negative). But from the way the nursery manager thanked me, I'm assuming not everyone is doing this.

To be fair it's pretty ambiguous about what tests / isolating people are supposed to do

ShatParp · 22/09/2021 18:37

Not really ambiguous that you are supposed to test for a cough though, is it?
