Was your PCR test self administered at the site?

Hello,

My husband and son went to a local walk-in site yesterday following positive LFT for both.

He was surprised that he had to do it himself and we wonder if that’s the case everywhere.

Our son’s result has come back positive but my husband’s negative, even though the tested positive on LF and he’s feeling unwell.

We don’t know if it was too early for his infection to show up on the PCR or if he didn’t perform the test correctly.

Thanks!

I’ve always had to do myself at walk in sites.

Yes, every PCR test Me and the family have had has been self administered.

ditalini · 21/09/2021 09:35

No. It was done by a nurse and far more thoroughly that I would have done on myself.

It did make me wonder whether all the lateral flows I'd done up to that point were probably a waste of time and I think I'm much better at doing them now (especially the throat).

Oh, thanks, this was our first time so we didn’t know what to expect.
I’m going to order to test at home and do it more thoroughly.

Always self administered at the sites I’ve been to

At our local site its a drive through one, and you get the option of what lane you take, 1 for doing it yourself and another for someone else to do it on you.

ArnoldtheAngryTapir · 21/09/2021 09:37

Same here, 99% of PCR tests we've had done at walk-in/drive through sites were self administered.

The only exception was a hospital pre admission PCR drive through and then a nurse came out and did it.

Yes, unfortunately.
I’ve been swabbed by a trained person in France last week, and I can confirm that he was way more thorough than I’ve ever been (as in- he really poked up my nose way more I’ve ever done!)

I've been to 2 different sites
One self administer and another you pick a lane like a PP said a choice of self administer or and someone else did it for my daughter
