Positive lateral flow negative PCR

My child tested positive for covid so I took a LTF which showed a positive result. I've attached a photo and it's really really faint but you could see it in real life. Booked a PCR for the same day which came back negative. My other child tested positive but me and DH have remained symptom free (negative LTF and PCRs) both had 2 vaccines. Anyone else experienced this? Could it have been a false positive LTF (I know these are rare). I suppose I could do a antibody test down the line to be sure.

I can't see a line on LFT - I've seen lots of positive LFT and they're all pretty clear.

PCR should be more actuate but you could repeat if you want to

This is my LFT from today. Awaiting PCR. Teen tested positive via PCR.

Not seen lines that strong since I found out I was having two babies at once!

I've done two PCRs but both negative.

That is a really strong line!! My sons was like that. Maybe it wasn't a positive then on the LTF.

Lateral flow I think is just a shadow?
They’re very inaccurate so I’d go on the pcr result.

Lovemusic33 · 20/09/2021 20:08

The PCR is more accurate so the PCR is correct, LFT was a false positive, apparently it happens a lot. There have been a few kids at dc school that have had post it I’ve LFT but then got negative PCR and were allowed to go back to school. For me I had a negative LFT and a positive PCR.

Try again withanother lateral flow tomorrow - if you are positive it will likely be a stronger line tomorrow. The pcr's don't always pick up mild cases, I had this exact scenario with my first faint lft - 3 days later the line in the lft was super strong and then I did another pcr and it was positive that time..

cansu · 20/09/2021 20:15

The lateral flow you showed is negative. The line will be clear of positive. What you are seeing is a very faint shadow
Its negative.

The LTF I've posted is from a week ago today. I've done them every day since and negative. My other child tested positive so I have another week of them isolating and will continue to test. Really surprised I haven't caught it as both of them have.

My dd has just had a positive LFT and it's clear as day. Yours looks really really faint

whittingtonmum · 20/09/2021 21:16

My son had a faint LTF and mild symptoms (feeling tired and a hoarse voice). His PCR at a testing centre was negative. At the same time we were doing daily PCR tests for a research study but they took longer to process. When I finally got the results every single one of his tests was positive. On the day he had the lateral flow result and on the day he did the negative PCR test at testing centre.

So if I had a positive lateral flow and a negative PCR I would do another PCR. Only if second one negative would I conclude that I really wasn't positive.

My positive LFT was very faint as in the picture. PCR aftewords confirmed positive
