Multiple cases schools

Any teachers or staff in school out there help with what happens when there are multiple cases in the same class at school?? What if anything have PHE done or suggested?

Can’t say I’m overly thrilled about the prospect of having to go into class on Monday where 1/4 of the class have tested positive for Covid!

Seems just have to hope that I’m not one of the unlucky ones the vaccine doesn’t work for!

Infection rates are rising in secondary school kids according to the ONS.

QuarantineQueen · 19/09/2021 19:28

I'm a CEV teacher and I'm pleased to say my magic tape is still in place so I can only assume I am protected. Right?

BluebellsGreenbells · 19/09/2021 19:34

I laugh at your magic tape!

Only the finest sea salt and chanting keeps the covid at bay!!

QuarantineQueen · 19/09/2021 19:38

@BluebellsGreenbells what is this incantation of which you speak? I need more details and will get all my classes reciting it at the start and end of each lesson. Do we sprinkle the salt, or eat it?

TottieMarchpane · 19/09/2021 19:42

I've got it, after four of my class have tested positive. I feel dreadful, even though I was double jabbed. Dread to think what state I'd have been in if I hadn't.

The DfE helpline we reported to said ventilation, good respiratory hygiene, extra cleaning - that's it Hmm

middleager · 19/09/2021 19:45

I'm so angry as it looks like my teen may have it for the second time in 10 months from school. What does Covid do to the body if you keep catching it yearly?

My other teen is waiting on a PCR as tested positive for LFT.
Are we the only country with zero mitigations for schools?

Realitea · 19/09/2021 19:50

Where abouts in the us are you all? Just to get an idea of where these schools are

Realitea · 19/09/2021 19:50

I meant UK!

Fortyfifty · 19/09/2021 19:57

East Anglia - dropping like flies Year 11 and Year 9 at DH's school. I'm not too worried for him - he got covid in the summer, double jabbed. The lack of concern or care by this government for school aged children and teachers is shocking. No forward planning during te summer.

DD is almost 16 and some of her classmates have tested positive. Seems she is more than likely to get covid before she can be vaccinated.

middleager · 19/09/2021 20:07

West Midlands.

It was a race to see if the one who hadn't had Covid could be vaccinated. Guess we ran out of time. How many times can our kids catch Covid?
Livid doesn't even cover how I feel.

SirBale · 19/09/2021 20:30

I’m in South East don’t want to potentially out self by being more specific but local towns rate have dropped in the last pimple of weeks and below national average.

Best find my magic tape and 2m ruler to keep those pesky covid germs away!

Doesn’t sound like PHE are going to be much use tomorrow other than to open the windows a bit more and douse those left in sanatizer!

There are 6 cases in my dd's y4 class. They have been sent home for the week (with online learning) at the suggestion of public health.

beela · 19/09/2021 20:38

The whole class, I mean!

Mammaaof · 19/09/2021 21:28

I'm South Wales! Cases in primary schools here are quite bad!

QueenofLouisiana · 20/09/2021 06:39

Our head has reinstated bubbles, cancelled assembly in the hall and banned singing. All staff in masks, but of course we aren’t offered the same protection from pupils in primary schools. Bit late as I tested positive yesterday but taught in 4 classes on Thursday/ Friday.
Parents being really unpleasant when asked to test kids and often returning them to school rapidly saying an LFT is negative. We have swathes of children going sick from classes (you can see it’s all in one particular area of the room sometimes).
I felt the same feeling of being circled by wolves last week as I did before Christmas. It’s almost a relief to just need to worry that the infection is mild and that I don’t pass it on at home. Yes, just those small worries now.
East Anglia- for reference

SirBale · 20/09/2021 12:27

Now up to half the class off and still expected to carry on as normal!

I can wear a mask or a plastic face shield if I want - lucky me!!!

😱

Shocking! What is going on? We aren’t even being told who is off with covid! Ignorance is bliss and all

SirBale · 20/09/2021 12:45

The advice or lack therefore of advice is truly appalling. I was PCR negative over the weekend but how long that lasts is another matter!!
Practically down to single figures in my class now!

My hope that I hadn't transmitted at home didn't last long, DH tested positive this morning and DS has a sore throat and headache. All vaxxed as much as we can be.

I've got half my class away so I'm setting online work for them when I'm awake.

Anjo2011 · 20/09/2021 15:28

Dd in year 6, 7 in her class tested positive last week. She is negative so far. They are now eating in their classroom and have a separate section for playtime. We have been testing as she has a sister in seniors so we are all testing 2/3 times per week. In her class the siblings seem to have caught it but not the (vaccinated) parents . I think this is how the winter months are going to be, bearing in mind it’s still very mild there are already more cases in our school than the beginning of the year. I think bubbles are the only way we have chance of seeing the winter through without mass absences. The children all seem to have mild symptoms and no one has been really unwell.

3asAbird · 20/09/2021 15:41

Just to mention if you get covid twice 2nd postive not counted in daily figures.
So if you teacher,ta or pupil and got covid 2nd time then you not counted.

Also another scenario is people got postuve on lft and stayed home and did bit follow up with pcr test.

Must be nightmare for school and teachers everyone off different times.
Our senior school is less than transparent so have 2 off awaiting pcr tests today.
Another independent sent all year 8 home and is being more honest with parents than our state academy.
Even primary being very cagey and saying only tell us if 5cases.

Unis return this week so this may see spoke if lft are followed up by postive pcr.

Couldhavebeenme3 · 20/09/2021 15:51

I'VE RUN OUT OF MAGIC TAPE!!!

Battens hatches, stands by with 2l bottle of hand sanitiser

flumposie · 20/09/2021 20:31

5 cases in my daughter's year 7 form where I teach. We are waiting for her pcr test from this morning as it's her friendship group that's tested positive and she has had a cough since Friday evening. The head has sought advice today , the response from health authority was all pupils in the form should take a pcr test.

MissPeregrine · 20/09/2021 21:29

I can only assume that people aren’t getting tested but there was a thread recently where lots of people were having positive LFT but negative PCR tests. They were convinced it was Covid.

There are lots of other virus’ doing the rounds right now though.

pontypridd · 20/09/2021 21:42

Just to mention if you get covid twice 2nd postive not counted in daily figures

Eventually figures will be really low - if this is true- suggesting very few of us have Covid when actually lots have.

Why would they discount secondary infections?
