Multiple cases schools

Any teachers or staff in school out there help with what happens when there are multiple cases in the same class at school?? What if anything have PHE done or suggested?

Can’t say I’m overly thrilled about the prospect of having to go into class on Monday where 1/4 of the class have tested positive for Covid!

Seems just have to hope that I’m not one of the unlucky ones the vaccine doesn’t work for!

If there’s an ‘outbreak’ I think you can open a window-providing nobody gets too cold.

You can teach your class outside…!

AppleKatie · 19/09/2021 17:54

Hold your breath?

Mammaaof · 19/09/2021 17:56

There's 7 cases in my son's class, other children and staff can still go in unless they get symptoms..

SirBale · 19/09/2021 17:58

@Appuskidu @User5827372728

That’s what Im worried the advice will be Shock
Windows and doors have been open since the start of term so teaching in the playground it is Hmm

I had one class with 10 positive cases. Nobody cares. Now I'm positive too. And yes, I am fully vaccinated. I feel pretty shit, but I'm at the mild end of symptoms still (ie, I am fine at home, a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen are keeping me relatively ok). I'm very glad I had the vaccine to reduce my symptoms.

SirBale · 19/09/2021 18:01

@Mammaaof
Have any additional measures been introduced though or is it just a matter of hope for the best!?!

I’m not particularly vulnerable, double jabbed and had it mildly last May but would rather not get it and have to isolate for 10 days.

God knows how I’d feel as a CEV member of staff or as a parent of a vulnerable child!

Pretty shocking isn’t it! I wish we could get a booster jab!

SirBale · 19/09/2021 18:03

@MsAwesomeDragon
I was negative on PCR yesterday but even double jabbed I’m not banking on that holding out for too long.

Your head can opt to go back to bubbles in the event of an outbreak. For us (infant school) that means eating lunch in classrooms, separate sections of playground and no mixing, no sharing of resources or learning spaces between classes.

That's all the protection we get.

whittingtonmum · 19/09/2021 18:04

When DDs class had five or more cases school spoke to Public Health at the local authority and took extra measures but these were related to keeping the class away from mixing too much with other classes and year groups ie lunch served in class room, remote attendance of assembly, class bubble in after school club - nothing which would keep teacher or children already in the class particularly safe. Parents were asked to get PCR test for every child and not send them in if they feel unwell. Needless to say the teacher caught it....

funday · 19/09/2021 18:04

There are 15 positives in my daughter's class. And rising cases in other classes too.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 19/09/2021 18:05

We've been told to open windows and suggest students wear masks, but can't force them. Not allowed to bubble yet apparently although we are desperately trying to keep year 11,12 and 13 away from the others right now. Then again a party last weekend has taken 8 year 13s out so far.

FancySomeChips · 19/09/2021 18:05

It’s shockingly shit.
This government are absolute knob heads.

DumplingsAndStew · 19/09/2021 18:09

I'm so angry at how schools have been left to try and function like this, with no thought to safety at all.

However, try to see the silver lining. If such large numbers are catching it all at once, hopefully that means almost getting it over with, so to speak, and hopefully offering some relief for at least a few months whilst everyone is immune?

I really hope everyone is OK

SirBale · 19/09/2021 18:11

I’m not saying that it’s what I think should happen but it sounds like there’s no point where they send the class home?
Just a constant rolling cycle of those at home and those in school with teacher trying to teach both and praying their vaccine holds it at bay!

Really feel for anyone vulnerable or with vulnerable family. Guess this is what living with Covid looks like!

SirBale · 19/09/2021 18:13

@DumplingsAndStew

That is the only consolation I can see - let it rip through the class now and it should then offer some safety at least in the short term.
At the moment, all the cases I know about are barely symptomatic with just mild headaches, upset stomach and tiredness being the main symptoms.

whittingtonmum · 19/09/2021 18:18

DH and I caught it after DD brought it home from school. We're double jabbed but had it pretty bad. Like flu for a week and then a very slow recovery with lots of fatigue & lingering symptoms. I am not convinced it's the right thing to do to let it rip through schools like that. Long term health consequences also not so clear.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/09/2021 18:35

There seem to be many posts with cases in schools yet the daily case numbers aren’t going up which seems strange. I wonder what the actual number is as expected a huge jump in daily figures.

ChloeDecker · 19/09/2021 18:38

Get that magic tape back obvs.

BluebellsGreenbells · 19/09/2021 18:41

School has CO2 monitors - well one in a large school and expect a staff member to regularly check levels in each class.

Whoopy doo

brokenhairband · 19/09/2021 18:52

It is odd that cases aren’t rising. Maybe it’s only specific areas. My DS’s primary school has 50+ cases (not a huge school) and my DD’s secondary has many too. I personally know the most poeople I’ve ever known with it at the moment but cases are seemingly falling. I also work in a school, we have 15 current cases but we are a very large school. PHE advice to primary has been to segregate classes again.

BluebellsGreenbells · 19/09/2021 19:05

Are secondary school kids getting tested?
If positive PCR or assumed Covid then they are allowed to work from home and school provide lessons

If off Ill they won’t get lessons, there are other bugs about

BUT they won’t need a positive PCR test as proof like adult do.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 19/09/2021 19:20

I think cases aren't rising because a lot of people aren't testing. They don't want to isolate or keep children at home.

Megistotherium · 19/09/2021 19:23

My ds's school is still doing twice weekly lft and mask needs to be worn in community areas, and in class if they want to, and ds says many are wearing. No case yet here.
