Are we in the clear?

So my daughter has just had COVID . She's been off school isolating at home and according to test and trace is released at midnight tonight so can return to school tomorrow. Me and husband both double jabbed and have been taking lateral flow tests regularly, all negative. 2 other kids both been out at school all week as normal, one even shares bedroom with her but so far no symptoms and lateral flow tests negative. I was so sure that the other kids would catch it given they are not vaccinated and share a bathroom etc with her. But it's been over a week and nothing. Of course I suppose they could still catch it from anywhere but if they haven't caught it from their sister yet they aren't likely to now are they?

I think you are in the clear too. But the rest of you should have got PCRs really as soon as your DD tested positive

Lazypuppy · 19/09/2021 10:55

Why wpuld they get PCRs whrn they have no symptoms?

Close contacts of a confirmed case are advised to get a PCR. You can’t get much closer than living with someone.
catchyjem · 19/09/2021 11:00

Should have said we did all get PCR tests too and we're all negative.

Ah gotcha

minipie · 19/09/2021 11:02

Think you are fine then

catchyjem · 19/09/2021 11:21

Oh I hope so, just seems weird as they go on about how highly contagious it is!

They did a study on how likely you are to catch covid when you share a bed with a positive person and it wasn't even 80% iirc

Polkadotties · 19/09/2021 11:26

My OH is currently in isolation with covid, his release day is Tuesday. We believe he gave it to my dad who we saw the day that OH started feeling ill, went out for lunch together and OH started feeling ill in the evening.
Neither myself or my mum have tested positive despite living with a covid case in our houses. Apart from sleeping in separate rooms we are still using the same bathroom etc.
Weird disease.

My daughter caught it a week ago, started with symptoms last Sunday, I got it 2 days later. My wife and son have managed to avoid it for a week so far. I wouldnt mind but I was the person who had had least contact with my daughter in the days before she became ill.
catchyjem · 19/09/2021 11:40

Yes it really is a weird virus. My daughter was only ill for one day. Slight temp, bad headache, one episode of vomiting. 24 hours later felt fine again. Only tested really due to having a temp. Fully expected it to be negative as thought she must just have a tummy bug. Just goes to show that you never know !

My DH and I have had covid in the house for 2 weeks now. Ds had it but out of isolation. Girls both caught it a week later. Dd2 had played x box with her brother a week before but not sure if that’s how she got it as rife at school. Both girls did an LFT the same night and one was positive the other negative. DH had a mild temperature but felt better after 2 days but had negative PCRs. DH and I are still testing daily on LFTs. We are both double vaxxed but obviously doesn’t stop you getting it. Another week of trying to avoid it! Youngest is 9 and she has got it worse. Really sad for her as bad cough and gets gunk in her throat and she is panicking so can’t breathe! Hoping shenn be is over the worst after today

Nerdygirl · 19/09/2021 13:31

I am wondering the same. Dd started sneezing on the 9th and a bit of a runny nose then the 11th we need a lft and got a positive followed up by a positive pcr. We all got tested at the same time and were negative . She comes out of isolation tonight and we are hoping if we were going to get it we would by now

My husband is double vaccinated and I have only had 1 and was due the second when I had to go into isolation with her

TerribleZebra · 19/09/2021 15:04

I tested positive 8 days after DS. Only symptom is loss of smell so far. However I had a cold all week which I'm now wondering if it was actually covid. I had a negative Pcr and 8 negative lateral flow tests, until the positive one today. DH and DD both still testing negative. I'm double jabbed. It's bizarre how it affects some and not others.
