DS (16,1 jab) has developed a runny nose today. Said he had no sense of smell but could smell perfume when checked. Negative LTF today. We’ve got a family meal booked tonight to celebrate a birthday. Would you still go?

No, not a chance. I'd send my apologies for the whole family, and get a pcr for him in the morning.

I think I would. Though I think I’d do the others attending the courtesy of letting them know the situation in case any were uncomfortable with it. I am currently a (double jabbed) close contact of a positive case (child in my class) so this is what I’ve done with my family meal tomorrow.

Im assuming grandparents in their 70s or so, in which case I definitely wouldn't take the child. Not sure about myself!

I should add that I myself have no symptoms and will do a LFT before I go.
