Double vaccinated breakthrough Covid, anyone else?

Second vaccine June, Astra Zeneca, awaiting pcr but had positive lateral flow yesterday, feel like I have a bad head cold, absolutely no sense of smell (couldn’t smell a pot of coffee brewing yesterday which first alerted me…) and today have horrible metallic taste in my mouth and nothing tastes right, taste or texture Sad anyone else?

Same here- I tested positive on Monday- feel better now although felt rough earlier in week- can’t smell though!

My son is positive, I’ve double jabbed (Moderna) and have literally had him sleeping in my bed and haven’t caught it. It’s so odd!

I tested positive yesterday. Double jabbed. Second vaccine was in April. I feel like I've got a really, really bad cold. Sweaty and shivery, coughing a lot, snotty, headache, sore throat, etc. I think I've probably felt iller than this before, but it's not pleasant.

DC tested positive in the summer. DH and I were both double jabbed with AZ. He caught it and was feverish and unwell for a couple of days. I had much closer contact with the positive DC, including a night sleeping next to me in bed and didn't have it (tested negative more than once). If you are feeling as you do it is quite likely you have it I should think. Hope you feel well soon.

My friend's husband got it recently when schools went back (Scotland), he was double jabbed, he's in his 50's and was quite unwell with it for a week or so. They were both AZ like me.

We’ve just finished isolating having had covid. DH and I had second jabs a few months back (me Pfizer, him AZ). We’ve been pretty much fine luckily, only realised as tested for other reasons. DH was really sleepy for a few days, I had a slightly sore throat/ear/eyes and my chronic illnesses flared up a little (fatigue/dizziness/aches) but that’s it. Friends have also had it - half the household double jabbed - they felt really unwell but all fine now.

Feeling very grateful that we had the jab, wondering if we may have been much more ill otherwise!

It seems this is my second covid infection though - antibody test indicated I had vaccine antibodies AND antibodies that were unlikely to be from this current infection.

We were all more unwell last March - it was horrific, and I took weeks to be able to walk round the park. The minor symptoms I had this time were like mild versions of what I felt that time. But obviously no testing then. And apparently it’s unlikely that we’d still have antibodies from that long ago?!

Anyway, I really hope those of you who have it now feel better very soon! 💐

Yip me too. Been double jabbed since May but caught it off DD who picked it up at school last week. Seem to have a whole shopping list of symptoms: headache, sneezing, coughing, fever, loss of smell, everything, tastes funny, skin is sensitive : pressure of clothes etc really uncomfortable, resting heart rate is 10-20 bpm higher than usual and reduced o2 sat (have pulse ox at home). Now on inhaler steroids which has helped the breathing. Think I am day 7.

Can’t imagine how bad it would be unvaccinated!!

I know several double jabbed people who have had since had covid

They are glad that it meant they didn't have to too badly.

With over 80% of over 16s double jabbed jabbed it's to be expected that large numbers of cases will be in that group.

Most of adult population are double jabbed now but cases are still high- clararly the vaccines are not preventing the spread- I’d hate go think how much worse I would have felt without the vaccine though

@YerAWizardHarry sorry to jump on OP thread to ask. My son tested positive Tuesday - I got him bed with him in early hours as he woke crying his eyes were burning. I am still waiting for positive test (have done PCR sent yesterday and lateral flow every day). Can I be cheeky and ask how long you’ve been waiting? I’ve had both vaccines - Astra. Been searching for days for someone similar 😂

I posted last night about how much covid is in my DCs school, woke up this morning to chest pain, breathlessness and extreme fatigue. Basically spent the day in bed.

Double jabbed and feeling really anxious it’s covid PCR booked

@yerawizardharry Sorry! I tend to ramble 😂. Since your child test positive or (I shouldn’t have assumed it was recent) was it that you never caught it from your child.

I work in a school and have vulnerable colleagues… puts fear into me that I’ll be the one to pass it on.

I don't think vaccines are preventing the spread at all, just reducing symptoms. I think we need to accept that most people will catch it regardless of vaccine status.

@Batmanandbobbin we are just coming to the end of our isolation period, was the end of last week he caught it! I guess I could still catch it but I’ve had 2 negative PCRs and have been doing LTFs twice daily. He has very little in the way of symptoms though, he was bit sniffly with a tickly throat on day 1 and 2 and absolutely nothing since.

I think the term "breakthrough Covid" is unhelpful, because it suggests that the vaccine is supposed to stop the virus. But that's now clearly not the case.

How about rather calling it "mitigated Covid", which is much more accurate?

Yep me and DH, I also don't think breakthrough covid is helpful, we weren't very sick but may have been without vaccine.

My understanding was that once double vaccinated it reduces the risk of both infection and transmission by 60% and the risk of hospitalisation or death by up to 85%. Why are people surprised when they catch it? It’s not like anyone ever claimed you wouldn’t get it is it?

@YerAWizardHarry thank you so much for putting up with my waffle! I must come across a little insane, just clutching at straws I suppose. Bar the burning eyes one night only, we’ve had nothing since from him. I’ll continue with LFT and have another PCR Wednesday. His is due to end Thursday, hope you’ve managed to avoid it!

Just to say apologies, the tone of my pp was unintentionally harsh - it’s just that getting soon it is inevitable for everyone (as we have no restrictions) for everyone in England - it’s not ‘breakthrough’ COVID it’s just catching COVID because it’s everywhere, like we all willl/have because it’s spreading like wildfire.

It’s just frustrating to see the implication that anyone could have assumed that they wouldn’t get it having been double vaccinated.

Eventually (or soon) we will all get it - but with vaccines the spread is reduced/slower and the illness is less severe, that’s all the claims ever were, not that it provides immunity & somehow the virus has broken through that!?
