That’s it really. Our DS just turned 16 and so we’ve had the text inviting him to be vaccinated. Both DH and I are double jabbed, but DS had severe walnut allergy and also mild asthma. We’re not sure if he should have the jab or not and would welcome advice

Yes.

DH (48) has asthma and a walnut allergy. He had no issues with the vaccine.

I would ask your doctor for advice.

Yes allergic asthmatics are at higher m risk of severe reactions to any respiratory viral illness. My daughter (4) has asthma and multiple allergies but no chance of a jab so just crossing fingers here

I’ll just add that DS had Covid and had horrific sore throat from it, but recovered fully.

Yes definitely if he has asthma! Covid with asthma is horrendous!

I think the asthma makes it more of a reason for him to have it.

I consulted with DS’ allergician about this, especially after seeing reports of anaphylaxis after Pfeizer vaccine on the early days of the vaccine.

It turns out I had nothing to worry about. Here is what he said:

Initially there were a few cases of allergy to Pfizer vaccination no fatalities and that was to a substance called PEG(poly ethyelene gycol) an additive in medicines and other substances and if you are allergic to this then you could react.

US has recommended using Pfizer vac from 12 yrs of age with a higher rate of protection. So only contra-indication is allergy to PEG but allergy to food items not a contraindication.

As far as AZ vaccine if you have a bleeding disorder or clotting problem it is contraindicated. Now because of some clotting issues there was a recommendation of using Pfizer for under 29 yr olds.

Please look up at Allergy UK website there is very good information about Covid vacs.

If I can offer any reassurance I have brittle asthma, hazelnut allergy and 2 other anaphylactic allergies an autoimmune disease and I was fine

DS 17 has the same autoimmune disease and anaphylactic shellfish allergy, he had both Pfizer jabs due to his condition and he was fine

DD 18 same autoimmune disease and asthma had Pfizer and was fine

DH nothing much wrong with him, also fine
