I'm feeling really worried about this

I started with a cold (cheers DH) on Monday. Felt progressively worse through the week, by Wednesday I had full snot in face with awful head pressure, cough started yesterday. I had to have a pcr test because I need to go to hospital appointments and for my work, had one on Tuesday and it was negative.

Today my cough is so bad I feel I'm drowning, my chest is tight and I'm coughing up green/ brown yucky stuff. I basically have a chest infection, because I'm about to do chemo in a couple of weeks I thought I'd ask to see a GP, I've had a negative pcr, all is good right?

Wrong! The GP won't see me without another negative PCR because the cough started after the last negative pcr. So I had another one this morning, I can however see a Dr if I drive to the nearest covid hot hub, it's a take a ticket thing and wait to be seen. I'm already immunocompromised I really am concerned about sitting in a covid hot hub to access antibiotics. This is my only option the dr has said but I'm worried about getting covid whilst waiting to see a dr for my non covid chest infection.

I'm double jabbed but I have no antibody immunity, I'm on a trial and as I'm also a nurse I've got my 3rd injection next week or would have if I hadn't got this bloody cold!!

Would you go? Or just wait for the pcr test from this morning to come back hopefully negative and then access ooh for steroids and antibiotics?

Sorry this is so long!

I think I would wait for the second PCR result.

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/09/2021 14:28

I would wait in your position, it sounds too risky.
I hope you are negative and feel better soon.

NuffSaidSam · 17/09/2021 14:29

I'd wait for the second PCR

Covidworries · 17/09/2021 14:32

Can the doctor put up a prescription for anti bs now and see you after result tomprrow

ToANewBeginning · 17/09/2021 14:34

If it helps, I took a PCR at 10.30 yesterday morning and got the (negative) result at 7am today. We’re fairly near a processing lab, which helps, but still suggests they’re processing them pretty quickly and you wouldn’t have to wait too long. If I were you I’d do the second test and hang on. Hope you feel better soon and the chemo goes well.

If you call 111 out of hours you should be able to get a prescription for antibiotics over the telephone.

Bakewellisntjustacake · 17/09/2021 14:45

The doctors and the pharmacy are in the same place and the prescription can go to the pharmacy now but they won't let me in the building without a negative pcr. DH is in work til 8pm and I can't get anyone to go for me and they're all in work.

But I will wait for the pcr test it should be today hopefully. If the drs are closed then I'll call 111 and I'll have a negative (hopefully) test to prove I'm safe so if I do have to go and see a dr I can hopefully go to the green side.

Thanks all!

Negative test, just seen ooh and I have pneumonia so I've got a lot of antibiotics, if no improvement then they'll have to admit me

Oh you poor thing,. Unmumsnetty hugs, you must feel miserable.
Glad to hear you have the ab's now, + the negative test is a plus of course. Fingers crossed they start working soon.

ATieLikeRichardGere · 18/09/2021 10:03

Great that test was negative. Hope abs work their magic quickly.

ItWasAgathaAllAlong · 18/09/2021 10:17

I suspected it was pneumonia just from your list of symptoms (not a medic or anything, just seen enough of it with my dad to see it from what you said.

I know it's all a moot point now, but I'm amazed the dr couldn't - somehow have gotted some antibiotics to you while you were waiting for you 2nd PCR test results. (Contactless delivery outside the surgery/pharmacy, that kind of thing, so you didn't actually have to go inside?) But I'm even more amazed the dr didn't think 'pneumonia' for your list of symptoms too! That delay might have made all the difference to whether have to admit you or not.

Get well soon OP, and good luck with all of the other medical issues you're going through too. Flowers

Gosh that sounds rotten OP. Really hope you turn a corner soon and it doesn't impact your chemo start date
