Quarantine rather test on return from Spain

I am retired and going to Tenerife shortly. It would be easy for me to quarantine/isolate for ten days when I get home. Do I have the option to do this rather than do the pre flight and day 2 tests?

No you don't. You have to take the test within 72 hours of your flight home and then up tp 2 days after you land home. It's fairly easy OP

Batshittery · 16/09/2021 19:41

I meant to say that you can't get on the flight home without proof of a negative test

AgnesNaismith · 16/09/2021 19:46

FYI that is likely to change tomorrow.

Rumours are they are dropping test requirements for double vaccinated people on entry to England

emotionsecho · 16/09/2021 19:46

@Batshittery does the test have to be a PCR test?

and does the day 2 test in the UK have to be pre-booked before you fly back?

Sorry to ask but you seem to know what's what and a friend, English living in Spain, double jabbed, has tried to navigate the advice but is getting confused, says the Pharmacy is offering a test but unsure if it is the required one, seems to be an antigen test?

Thanks.

Interesting, that would make things easier for friend although friend is quite happy to have the required test(s) just wants to make sure it is the correct one.

Antigen test fine to return home with and you need to prebook the day two test before travelling home as you have to enter a code on your passenger form.

The test you take before leaving Spain to come to the U.K. doesn’t have to be a PCR. We went to a private clinic and paid 30 euros for an antigen (lateral flow) test. The day 2 test after arriving in the U.K. must be a PCR (although that may change with the advice tomorrow).

Many thanks @Tatum1234 and @TheGrumpyGoat, will keep an eye on the news to see if it changes and let friend know.

Batshittery · 16/09/2021 19:55

@emotionsecho yes you do need to book the 2 day test before you go. You can buy the fit to fly type test in the UK and take it with you, or get one when abroad. My DH has just come back from Benidorm and he said it was painless really. One of the people he travelled with got a test in a dentist like clinic before returning home for £25. That was the price DH paid for the test he took with him

emotionsecho · 16/09/2021 20:08

Thanks @Batshittery.

We return on 5 October so at least won't have to do pre flight check now, just pcr day 2 test.
