NHS staff - any news on your booster

itrustinvaccines · 16/09/2021 18:14

My DP is proper frontline Covid-facing patient care, no news on boosters from their NHS trust, who have no clue when or how the boosters are going to be given.

Not like the footage from Croydon hospital today.

Would DP be better trying their GP for the booster, or are GPs only doing the over 80s to start with.

Obviously the government are all about protecting the patients, but Covid-treating staff should be protected ASAP with their boosters, so they don't get Covid (again) or bring it home to their families.

So similarly placed staff - what is your trust's plan to get your booster to you?

Absolutely nothing mentioned here - large Trust in the Midlands.

Brooze · 16/09/2021 18:23

I am eligible for it from tomorrow!

Bufferingkisses · 16/09/2021 18:25

Most trusts start rolling out next week. When did your dh have his first set? It should be 6 months after the second jab so most people are only just becoming eligible now anyway.

itrustinvaccines · 16/09/2021 18:30

Far far longer than 6 months since the 2nd dose.

Trust have actually said they have no idea.

Trust stopped the hospital-run vaccination scheme months ago, so they probably have wound it all down and no-one is winding it up again, it seems.

No, the ITU and respiratory ward staff had first in December, second in either January or March (depending if they were caught by the change from 3 to 12 weeks).

There are front-line Covid-facing staff who had their 2nd dose in early January. So that is now 9 months ago.

Maybe trust thinks they are going to ask their GPs?

This has been on the cards for months, so even though the concrete confirmation only came yesterday, it is unacceptable for some trusts to be standing around going oh.... what do we now....

OP posts:
cptartapp · 16/09/2021 18:43

Nope. We already have staff who were double jabbed early on now off sick really poorly with Covid.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/09/2021 18:48

Over 9 months since my second jab, so hoping my trust gets organised. Though have to admit they were fantastic with the original roll out, so feeling optimistic.

Notover13 · 16/09/2021 19:08

I’m having mine tomorrow, I work in admin but my trust are wanting everyone to book ASAP.

DeeDimer · 16/09/2021 19:11

No news but the Mass Vacc Team are starting to recruit and have said shifts will show on the system very soon.

itrustinvaccines · 16/09/2021 19:55

The Department of Health and NHS should have been making sure the local trusts were ready for this.

yes, my Dp is over 9 months post-dose2 now as well.

OP posts:
itrustinvaccines · 16/09/2021 19:56

Ironically those who have the longest gap since dose 2 are the most frontline staff who were prioritised by their trusts in December/January, and are now the people in the country with the longest gap since dose 2, yet they are the most exposed in the country to Covid in hospitals.

OP posts:
itrustinvaccines · 16/09/2021 19:57

There needs to be an urgent records search for anyone who had their second dose in January and those people should be called by their trust or GP asap.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/09/2021 20:01

I had my second dose in January. There are Covid patients on my ward. I have multiple underlying health conditions. Really hope my trust gets going with booster shots soon.

Brooze · 16/09/2021 20:08

Thinking about it, what’s to stop us simply going to a local drop-in vaccination centre with our vaccination card and proof of employment?

Carriemac · 16/09/2021 20:52

Appointments released in my trust today, I’m having mine tomorrow am. Had my first jab in December.
I’m not usually frontline but did Covid ITU shifts during the second wave so I’m delighted to get my booster.

I agree people like you should be put first. Hopefully very soon

Yes, since they are eligible officially now, they could presumably go to a walk in centre?

I am tempted to give it a try!

Egghead68 · 17/09/2021 09:04

No mention of it in my trust. To be fair, they didn’t get much warning. I’m hoping they will start next week.

Brooze · 17/09/2021 16:11

So, still no mention of it at work.

BUT I have just popped my details into the NHS vaccination booking site and it allowed me to make a booking, first one available was a week tomorrow.

I tried DH, who is only five months post second jab, and it wouldn’t let me book for him. So it seems like the system works!

itrustinvaccines · 17/09/2021 18:43

Brooze - DP tried the NHS booking site and it says not eligible?

DP's trust still not made any arrangements for frontline staff to get their boosters.

Now it's the weekend - so another 2 days with no arrangements.

OP posts:
Egghead68 · 17/09/2021 19:19

It said not eligible on the standard booking site to me too.

Motorina · 17/09/2021 22:33

No news on the booster. We have had news on the flu jab. The nearest site to where I work is a 90 mile round trip. Nine Zero. 90. ANd only open in working hours.

That's just... if they want to encourage uptake they really should make it practical to get.

Brooze · 21/09/2021 12:33

Here’s the NHS booking website specifically for the booster jab. If it’s been more than six months since your second jab then it should allow you to book your booster.
