Ds has covid. Due to come out of isolation Friday. Dd2 has it now! I’m still negative and so is DH but he has a temperature now! FFS! Another infinite number of days of isolation and uncertainty! Dd3 had a cold but stil negative so far! Life does not feel normal!

But think, if you all get it now, in one fell swoop, then you're "done" for this winter, almost certainly.

Theimpossiblegirl · 15/09/2021 23:27

This was us a month ago, despite me being double jabbed and the teens having had 1 shot. We're now glad we've had it as it's pretty inevitable really.

Etinox · 15/09/2021 23:29
Flowers But are you and DH doubled vaccinated? You don’t have to isolate if so.

They do if symptomatic. The vaccine doesn't stop you getting Covid, unfortunately.

Both double vaxxed! DH still negative on lateral flow but has a temperature! I’m still negative and no temperature yet not not going in Right direction!

Not sure I would trust the tests, especially when self administered. Ds(17) had a pcr test early this morning and got the result back an hour ago (surprised how quick it was!). It says negative.

He was out at an event on Saturday. He has done 4 LFT tests over the last 3 days as a close friend tested positive on Sunday night and ds had a sore throat and light cough. All LFT were negative.

Ds now has a high fever, cough and is noticeably unwell (which is why I am up at this time). Another friend in same group from Saturday has similar symptoms and had a positive PCR test today.

It just doesnt make sense ds is negative. But as he had a negative test I could send him back to school tomorrow!?!? (Obviously wont as he is still running a fever). Not really sure what to do at this point, do I send him back when fever breaks or keep him off for the full isolation period 🤦🏻‍♀️

PileOfBooks · 16/09/2021 04:17

It can take a while develop, WeAll, so it maybe you tested DS too "early" for it to show in his case. Might well be worth testing again now symptomaic (or have a go woth some lfts, although they are not reliable...)

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/09/2021 05:26

Are they too young to be home alone? Only the positive person has to isolate if you're double jabbed.

It is annoying, happened to me last month. I caught it and then DS tested positive 6 days after me, he's too young to be home on his own so I had no choice but to keep staying home with him.

ChristmasCovid · 16/09/2021 05:56

For the people with symptoms you shouldn’t rely on LFT - PCR needed especially for DH and I’d get one for Dd3 as well as often presents as a cold in children.
As a contact of a positive case you can do a pcr as well, as you may well be asymptomatic.

Lushmetender · 16/09/2021 06:22

Haven’t slept a wink! We’ll all book in for PCRs today.

Why are you isolating if you are double jabbed & no symptoms. You don’t need too. Appreciate with a positive young kid, one adult needs to be at home with them but you could have taken it in turns to leave? That’s certainly our plan with young kids. Your DD’s should have been at school if they’ve only just got symptoms & tested positive? Confused by why you’ve all been staying at home 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mindymomo · 16/09/2021 07:14

You have my sympathy OP, it must seem like never ending isolation at the moment, hope you all get through this ok.

Thats possible, he's been up through the night as uncomfortable with fever and cough, fell asleep eventually at 4am. Will try another LFT when he wakes then decide if we'll book another PCR although both dh and I not keen to share a car with him now if it can be avoided 🤦🏻‍♀️. Might get PCR posted instead...
MRex · 16/09/2021 08:13

Each of you needs to get a PCR when symptomatic. You've only been in for 9 days, then get just over a week longer. Appreciate it's frustrating, but it isn't a huge amount of time.

Lushmetender · 16/09/2021 08:30

Girls have been at school. My son has had full
Blown Covid so has to isolate from us for 10
Days which is up tomorrow and he has to self isolate for 10 days. Dd and DH have symptoms and school will not take other dd unless she has a negative PCR. What I mean by isolating is from each other in the house. I have been going shopping etc and my DH and I work from home but we’ve hardly seen son obviously as we really hoped we could avoid getting ill.

Oh gosh WeAll he does sound unwell :( And very much like covid given the timing. I hope he picks up soon x

Lushmetender · 16/09/2021 15:01

PCRs all done . Now the waiting game. DH feeling up and down. He had another negative LFT. Results usually come in around midnight. Just done the floors and tidying kitchen and put washing on in case we get ill. Gah! I hate all this!

Had a bit of a turn around today - he has gone from at 38.8 degree fever after paracetamol and 120 bpm heart rate during the early hours of this morning to this afternoon and a normal 37.4 degree temperature without paracetamol and 80-ish bpm heartrate. He still has a bad cough which is constant whenever he talks and he is still in bed tired, but otherwise thankfully feeling better.

He did another LFT this morning and it is still negative.

No idea what it is/was but looking like it was probably another viral infection, guess just need to wait and see now, it is September weekend here so he is not due back at school until Tuesday anyway.

Hope your family is feeling better soon Lushmetender

They do if symptomatic. The vaccine doesn't stop you getting Covid, unfortunately.

I wish people would stop saying this, the vaccine doesn't stop all cases of Covid but it does prevent a majority of double vaccinated people catching the virus (at least the OG Variant, and decreasing effectiveness with mutations)
