They are an easy measure that are no real hardship and could help (even if just in a small way) suppress this virus surely we should just bring back our mask mandate now?

@littlepeas

Well said. You know actually your comment about people trudging one way systems, yes it is dehumanising. It's like people were robotic. Anyway, thankfully this thread is full of people who are not willing to wear them anymore so we will see people like you springing about, and see their lovely faces.

gardeninggirl68 · 16/09/2021 10:48

Fucking hell @AlixandraTheGreat so what? It's a warehouse store one of our largest branches. Pulling up floor markers then requires a clean !!

We night shifts for that so no, we haven't completed this hope it's ok with you?

gardeninggirl68 · 16/09/2021 10:58

Everything definitely is not back to normal

Recent first aid course is still saying no breaths to be given during CPR

Warhertisuff · 16/09/2021 11:04

@Wizzbangfizz

But *@JollyAndBright* if everyone did that masks would be effective. The majority have a glitter/fashion cloth mask which is worn and touched multiple times without washing.

This is why rates are pretty much the same mask wearing or not (as Scotland is showing).

To be effective people would have to wear them in all interactions outside of the home... parties, clubs, meeting up with friends, In the office.... not just for a trip to a well-ventilated Tesco when you have fleeting contact with people or the 20 minute ride home on a half-empty bus.

The best that we might be able to do is enforce the latter - ie shops and public transport (and that's the "best" - even that will be hard now) which will achieve nothing in terms of reducing spread.

There's no realistic way whatsoever you're going to get people to mask up for the social interactions where the majority of Covid spread occurs.

So basically a mask mandate at this point is largely about people wanting to feel like they're "doing something" rather than being of any practical benefit.

Not that I envy anyone giving CPR at the moment, but that just shows how warped many people's sense of risk has become.... so it's better to let someone die rather than risk the small chance of getting Covid - an illness that is very unlikely to cause any particular harm beyond a few days in bed, especially if vaccinated? Wtf?

Sorry don't care what current training is I would be giving mouth to mouth if necessary. Takes me back to when HIV had just blown up, it was near Christmas and an elderly lady had slipped on the ice, hitting her head. She had a cardio/respiratory arrest and when I got there no-one had started cpr because they were waiting for a mouthguard. Needless to say 16 year old me didn't wait, I started full cpr immediately, then someone took over the breathing when the mouth guard arrived. Sadly the lady didn't survive (that was probably the most traumatic experience in my life up till then), I still wonder if she would have if everyone else hadn't stood around waiting for that damn mouthguard
Againstmachine · 16/09/2021 11:23

Society has become very warped with the CPR rules it really has.

"I wasn't even discussing this with you."

So? Do you not realise that masks could have a major impact on peoples lives and livelihoods? Pointing that our doesn't mean people want to sow the seed of class division.

Even low level restrictions have consequences for people.[/quote]

The class division comment was about something else, Peteycat.

"And BTW, you don't need to be "privileged" to accept the fact some restrictions need to stay in place - although some that like to sow class divisions would have you think that kind of thing constantly."

It was about restrictions. I already know that. That's why in my last paragraph I wrote ' even low level restrictions have consequences for people.

NotMyCat · 16/09/2021 11:41

@Warhertisuff compressions are more important and if someone didn't want to do breaths then hands only - like on the vinnie advert
Not many people survive out of hospital arrests anyway (to then leave hospital) but they won't be dying because you aren't doing mouth to mouth, compressions only is fine, that and using a defib if available

User147893 · 16/09/2021 11:44

I agree, why wait until things are bad and people have been unnecessarily infected and unnecessarily spread the virus?

Everyone got used to masks (even if some were reluctant) so it is not big deal to just bring back masks.

Virus levels and hospitalisations are only getting worse and will get even worse in autumn and winter - just bring them back now.

To me, this is not a measure to be saved for when things are really bad, it is a measure to help stop things get really bad.

Plus I've only ever seen BJ wearing those stupid swimming costume-material single layer masks or paper masks not properly moulded to his face, so I guess he is the problem in government that is against masks.

Peteycat · 16/09/2021 11:46

"Everyone got used to masks (even if some were reluctant) so it is not big deal to just bring back masks."

No they didn't. They are still clearly a bone of contention with most. Have you not read this thread properly?

Are you always this dramatic? You must be exhausted.

I see Pete’s back for another shift of let’s belittle people’s opinions.

I've just looked at the. Gov survey. Of all available mitigations if necessary mask mandate is the most popular - 58% support, closely followed by social distancing.

Haha do you really believe everything they say?

Peteycat · 16/09/2021 12:02

Ambiguous too, if necessary.

I do suspect it's more representative of how people feel than the anti any restriction small shouty mob on Mumsnet.

I can't get too worked up about masks or not in large supermarkets but I would have preferred them to be expected on public transport where options regarding use and social distancing are more problematic.

A gov survey don't you say, haha that's funniest thing I've heard people say.

Where I live if you actually go and talk to people, you will get lots of opinions.

Peteycat · 16/09/2021 12:13

"can't get too worked up about masks or not in large supermarkets but I would have preferred them to be expected on public transport where options regarding use and social distancing are more problematic."

So don't use public transport then. Its quite simple really, if you are scared, avoid the situation.

Peteycat · 16/09/2021 12:14

In a queue yesterday of approximately 60 people. I counted two, only two in masks.

Did you not understand that many people have to use public transport and can't choose to avoid it?

Virus levels and hospitalisations are only getting worse

Eh? Virus levels have been falling for a while now. Hospital numbers look like they’re on a plateau and will hopefully follow cases down soon.
