Should I get a pcr test?

Really boring thread sorry. Basically DD had a cold (probably caught from school). We covid tested her, both LFT and PCR negative. Now I have a very slight cough, a bit of a runny nose and a sore throat. Technically I guess I need to test for the cough but since it's pretty obvious that I bought dds cold and she didn't have covid, my friend said that I shouldn't waste a PCR test as it's obvious I will be negative. Opinions?

I wouldn't. We had the exact same scenario here, my son had a cold got the PCR - negative, then lo and behold we all caught the cold. I didn't test as it was obvious it was just DS's cold passed on

I would test. You don't know for sure so it's better to do one than not.

It's not going to hurt to get one - if you're right that you caught dd's cold, it's negative and no issues but if it is something more, you'll know and be able to follow advice ?

Test. If you do it in the afternoon, you may have the result next morning.

The problem is depending on viral loads test is all over the place.
We had two neg lat flow and one positive later on

We were pondering this today. DD developed a fever and cough and had negative PCR, then next morning DS woke up full of cold. But later, DS learned that some of his friends were also ill. We were wrong to assume his cold must have come from DD. Even if you don't know another ill person, there's still a chance you picked the bug up elsewhere unless you've been avoiding school runs, shops etc.

DS has a PCR booked for tomorrow.

I’d book a PCR test in this scenario. It’s likely you have caught a cold from your DD but it could be that you caught another virus from someone else. You can’t really rule it out until you’ve tested.
