He is an arsehole! Anyone who blames unvaccinated people for any of this are nasty and should consider the fact vaccination apparently in the governments words - DOESNT stop the spread so... I'll just leave that there!

I don't think it is illegal, or unconstitutional. Many workplaces already have a mandate for certain immunisations for employees.

I totally get his frustration and the desire to pull hard on whatever levers are available.

I feel like not enough has been done to reach retired-age people, however. The US's high death and hospitalization rates are mostly attributable to the fact that vaccination rates are very spotty in people over 60. (Well, that and the fact that so many Americans, like British people, are overweight)

Looks like all the anti-vaxers are up early and commenting on this thread.

Of course it's a fair idea. An overwhelming majority in hospitals are unvaccinated. How long should society keep funding that? Why should health workers be under that huge pressure to treat covid patients if those people have made a choice to not protect themselves?

Covid has become a tool for some political fractions especially in the US, and the arguments against vaccines, masks and all even doubting covid exists are totally removed from reality. It's not right that those who spread misinformation can influence other more vulnerable people who are literally risking their lives when getting the vaccine is the easiest thing they could do to protect themselves.

So basically like the rest of the world which seems to be helping its citizens get Covid under control and life back to normal? Excellent news and helpful to workplaces to get the economy back up and running.

Countries like Italy already have mandatory vaccines for healthcare, teachers and other sectors. And the only word you've heard from those sectors has been "thank you for prioritising my health so that life can get back to normal". (obviously you get the odd anti-vaxxer wanting to put on his deerstalker, grab his ammo, and go and shout loudly somewhere, but at the most recent of those protests last week about 20 people turned up)

I dont know where you are in the world, but we are in the UK and plenty of links including our scottish radio announcements saying how we can still pass on the virus vaccinated or not, it only "lessens the symptoms" and we have to still do LFTs twice a week.

The fact that vaccinated people can still transmit the virus does not negate the fact that it substantially reduces the chances of it happening.

Vaccination reduces both the likelihood of someone being infected and passing it on.

Does it though? There is a thread on here with people who have double vaccinated status, who all have had or got covid. I can assure you they will have passed it on (not that they have meant to). Considering I have just looked at how many have had the vaccine there is alot of "passing" seeming to be happening and it cannot just be from unvaccinated, due to the numbers of who is vaccinated being very large. Im not going to believe its reducing anything. I dont think its working and so are alot of people now. You could go back and forth for hours on this ever changing subject but the fact there is alot of contradiction means I dont trust any "leader" dictating what people do.

I agree. I work in a team of 5, we all are vaccinated. 1 staff member caught Covid last month and passed it on to me and another staff member, so that's 3 out of 5 vaccinated people who caught it.

I'm in Ireland where over 90% of our population is vaccinated. My DH, fully vaccinated for some time now, caught covid recently. In fact, Ireland has the highest % of people vaccinated and also the highest incidence of covid!! I read yesterday (in the times, so a credible source) that more than half the patients in ICU are fully vaccinated.
I'm fully vaccinated myself but am quite surprised at how many people don't realise that it doesn't mean you can't spread it Confused

Thankyou and that is shocking... when are they going to admit that the vaccine might not be working as good as they say it is? Instead they have went into complete denial and trying to force people to have it. It is wrong and not the right approach. I genuinly believe this will burn itself out and we need to just ride the wave!

Why target working-age people when those who are likely to die are older people likely retired or on disability?

Seems like a disaster in the making.

It’s unconstitutional/illegal. Biden can require executive branch federal employees and contractors to be vaccinated or tested via executive order, but he can’t require any other US workers/people to be vaccinated or tested. He doesn’t have the authority. Making laws is the job of Congress, not the President. So, I expect the Supreme Court will over turn the illegal part of this. But, he can always ask his party to introduce a bill to Congress to do it...so it may reappear only through correct channels.

Ah, now I was going to listen to the scientists who have researched this but I didn't realise there was a thread on MN with some anecdotal examples to prove the vaccines don't work.

It is legal

It's being done as a workplace safety regulation through OSHA, which has been mandating all sorts of rules for employers for 50 years

There will be exemptions for certain reasons and employees can choose weekly testing instead

Ok but they aren’t overdosing. Story about that by Rolling Stone had to be retracted, but not before it got splashed around news headlines.

Point is how OSHA can mandate something that may be more harmful than beneficial, particularly to young men under 25. It’s not something we want to encourage—potential of harming individuals for the ‘greater good’ (as it happens, I did take MRNA vaxx but I’m not a young male either)

Suspect it will be thrown out in courts and then Biden will blame seasonal uptick coming this winter to Northern states is because they overturned his mandate.

Or is that too strategic for him?
