Is test and trace compulsory?

Tested positive today. Isolating and contacted the people I've seen in close contact over the past few days. Had a number of texts and emails from NHStracing telling me to provide details of my close contacts. Is that a legal requirement?

@AdventuresDownRabbitholes

Check with your friends before naming them to T&T.

I would be incandescent with rage if someone named me without permission to T&T - I'm self employed, don't get sick pay, or furlough, or UC, got a pittance in SEISS (£93/month it averaged out at, because I'm "newly" self employed) and wouldn't be eligible for the £500 payment either.

If I don't work I don't get paid.

No way could I afford to self isolate.

If you are vaccinated you don't need to isolate. You dont even need to have a PCR test. Given that you have no right whatsoever to be incandescent with rage if someone gives your details to T&T .

I'm afraid that if I get Covid and am asked for contact details I will be giving them regardless.of the other person's ' permission'. Now that isolation is not compulsory for Covid contacts for the vast majority of the population refusing to give contact details is an appalling way to behave.

As already said, we're getting to the point when most contacts don't need to isolate anyway so hopefully they'll start diverting resources elsewhere. The phone call would've been a massive waste of time in our case, we'd only seen a couple of people in the days leading up to the DC's symptoms starting and testing positive, both of whom were double jabbed. From reading some of the responses, I'm pretty glad I didn't get to speak to them and waste half an hour or so answering irrelevant questions!

Having to go through questions about DCs workplace when they are clearly not of working age was ridiculous

Yeah this I found most frustrating like as if they didn’t actually have a brain cell. They told me not to let DS go into shops (duh he is 1) and make sure he was isolated from everyone in the house. He’s 1.. I’ll just lock him up and throw him a sarnie every now and again.. is it?

My son was positive and no one from test and trace rung him. He is out of isolation now but as he is still coughing he is staying put.

Unless a contact of mine needed official notification from Test and Trace to get sick pay, I would just tell them I hadn’t had any contacts in the time frame. I would of course tell my close contacts myself.

Why? As you’ve acknowledged, they won’t need to isolate. So why do Test and Trace need their details so desperately?

@generalh you can go out if coughing after the ten days according to the guidance.

Thank you. I know but he coughed so much he was sick so he decided it was best to stay put. That is the only symptom he had other than being tired.
