Selected for the flu and covid booster

A few days ago I received a letter from my medical practice instructing me to report for the flu and covid booster jabs at their nearby vaccination centre in two weeks' time.

I'm blowed if I know why. Although I'm now over 50, I'm not clinically vulnerable. I was identified as possibly pre-diabetic just before covid. (I was just advised to eat healthily & exercise more and it was never followed up.) I also have a BAME surname, but am not from an ethnic minority. I hardly think these things put me into the first 500,000 about to be invited, according to today's news.

My older friends are really miffed that I've been offered it so soon and are demanding that I email my GP surgery to find out why. However, even though the letter came from my GP, Government & NHS websites indicate that recipients are selected on the basis of data submitted centrally, so I don't suppose my GP knows either.

I suspect it's nothing to do with the COVID booster jab, but more them sliding in the flu jab under the radar, as I've never had it in the past.

Has anyone else had a letter?

I usually get the flu jab as I have Psoriastic an autoimmune Arthritis) but I was never considered CEV?

Not heard anything about flu or Covid booster.

Who cares why you were selected if you want to have it go for it, and don't feel guilty about it either! It's none of your older friends business to know why you were selected tell them to butt out.

I normally receive a flu jab. My GP surgery has “secured an early delivery” (from mid-Sept) and say they will offer COVID boosters to over 50s at the same time.

I was surprised, given the changing policy on boasters.

HipTightOnions · 02/09/2021 09:09

Boosters not boasters.

Neither me not DH have had anything. We've booked for our flu jabs already at our local pharmacy but it will be interesting to see if we do get a letter.

@HipTightOnions
That's interesting - an indication that it's more about the flu jab than the covid booster.

I’d just go for it and not give a damn why I’d been called. And as for your friends “demanding” you ask your gp, WTH!
