Need to sort out my medicine cupboard having found a few out of date things in there today 🤦 I thought I ought to stock up more generally in case the kids and I pick up covid now they are going back to school with such high rates 😬.

I have a pulse oximeter and thermometer, paracetamol and calpol....

I heard quite a few people could only deal with bland foods when poorly with covid.

Any practical tips or things I ought to add to my shopping list in anticipation of dealing with this?

It was just like a very bad cold for me when I had it before vaccines. I just took Lemsip and usual cold stuff. I had very painful aching joints so took ibuprofen for that.
Honey and lemon usual stuff really.
Nothing tasted nice so just ate soup and the off sarnie.

ilovebagpuss · 01/09/2021 22:32

Odd sarnie

theGirlWithManyFaces · 01/09/2021 22:35

-Ibuprofen for muscle aches.
-Ice pack that you put in the fridge for forehead has been a lifesaver.

MadameTuffington · 01/09/2021 22:36

Chicken soup - all the way xx

mumbadger · 01/09/2021 22:37

Thanks @ilovebagpuss that's useful to know, seems to vary how people are affected. The off sarnie typo made me chuckle too.

Oh and Jakeman’s liquorice cough candy - I had horrendous lesions and pain in my throat - I also watched all 4 seasons of Gomorrah which was bloody brilliant and took my mind off the pandemic and returning to frontline work.

Numbing throat spray. My sore throat was terrible.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2021 22:57

Something for nausea. Really bland food like cream crackers, crisps, etc.

Perpop · 01/09/2021 22:59

I got my dad vitamin/electrolyte sachets from Amazon for when he couldn’t really drink/eat much!

Getawaywithit · 01/09/2021 22:59

I struggled to eat much but I did manage Complan with out any trouble. Worth having a packet in in case of nausea and vomiting.

peachpearplum01 · 01/09/2021 23:11

Loads of paracetamol abs calpol for the kids.
Puzzle books, magazines, games for the boredom.

Cake and sweets!

NormaSwilly · 01/09/2021 23:15

tissues, Lemsip, decongestants- had terrible sinus pain - and menthol melts for the shower to try to help me smell something.

Ohhelppp · 01/09/2021 23:22

Water. The one day l didn’t try to venture out of bed, I didn’t drink enough and had heart palpitations in the evening. Thought I was dying Blush so maybe electrolytes too as I had no appetite whatsoever and had to force myself to eat and drink. Christmas Day was just miserable.

Mozfan · 01/09/2021 23:23

Has no one been ill before?! Jesus. What did you have in the medicine cupboard pre covid?! It’s just the same!

Starlitexpress · 01/09/2021 23:26

Toilet paper, didn't leave the bathroom for 2 weeksConfused

RainBow725 · 01/09/2021 23:34

More paracetamol than you think you could ever need. If the household come down with it one by one, you need loads and shops only let you buy two boxes at once. I had loads in but got down to our last box! Also lots and lots of tissues. And ice-cream was good when I couldn't taste anything 🍨

Siameasy · 01/09/2021 23:34

Salty things like crisps
Full sugar cordials I had mouth ulcers and artificial sweeteners cause mouth ulcers for me so only high juice squashes welcome here. I also had a rank mouth taste so mints are good.
Throat sweets as I had a sore throat
Olbas oil as o find I soothing to the sinuses

Mateypotatey · 01/09/2021 23:47

Lemsip lemsip lemsip. Thinking of buying shares in lemsip after my covid times.

Mateypotatey · 01/09/2021 23:49

Oh I also wished I had vicks vaporub to do a steamy face thing.

PandoraRocks · 02/09/2021 00:38

Cartons of fruit juice, herbal teas and bags of ice cubes to soothe the hellish sore throat (and throat spray was useless). Tins of soup, rice pudding - easy things to eat when your appetite's gone. Spare boxes of tissues: I used eight of them, coughing and spitting up the crap Shock

FflosFfantastig · 02/09/2021 06:48

I'd definitely say a throat spray. I found it helpful in numbing my throat and stopping the cough when it was about to descend into an uncontrollable coughing fit. I had terrible sinus problems so I used Sinex nasal spray too. Other than that I used Paracetamol and ibuprofen though I didn't find them effective on the headaches. Someone on another thread suggested 4head to just ease the feeling of the headaches a bit which I thought was a good suggestion.
