False positive LFT

Following a few conversations on this, has anyone had false positives from a lateral flow test? I had three (last Thursday and Friday) tested negative at PCR and also negative on tests from a different batch. But my husband also used tests from the first batch and they were negative for him, and on day three I took a fourth test from that batch and it was also negative. Lines were very faint.
I'm double jabbed and had covid before, so I was surprised at the positive result. Has anyone had a similar experience?
(I am not obsessed with testing, I was curious to see if I would continue to test positive as the days progressed and interested that some tests would return a negative result if from a different kit)

We had quite a few people get false positives at work, turned out all the false positives were from people who walked or cycled to work in the cold. The cold people then had to warm up in the toilets every testing morning for 15 minutes before being tested Grin

This is fascinating! I wonder why that affected the result?

Yes, I had several positive LFTs whilst being symptomatic, but had three negative PCRs. A few weeks later I had a negative antibody test, so whatever I had flagged up as positive on the LFTs but wasn't covid.

Not had a false positive but I’m currently having symptoms, my son has tested positive on both LFTs and PCR but I’ve tested negative. Im fully vaccinated so wondering if that’s keeping my virus load down so it’s not being picked up by the tests. Im isolating with my 9 year old anyway so it doesn’t matter even if I have got it but it does make me wonder.

Dh had a positive lft about six weeks ago. Negative pcr and totally asymptomatic.
He’s had negative lat flow tests subsequently.

And then last Sunday he had a number of positive lat flow tests- and one neg (he took4 as he had done two straight after a coffee)

Again, no symptoms and negative pcr.

He’s totally fine and has t done any more lat flow tests since as it seems stressful!
He double jabbed and very well otherwise

Yes I have a thread about this as been in a similar situation.
Faint lines on several lateral flows and negative PCR. No symptoms and otherwise fine.
Strange!
Judging by the comments on here it seems quite common!

Wow it does - I'm surprised as I assumed it was a bit like a pregnancy test - once it picked something up then that meant it was picking up the virus! I figured false negatives were common but I'm relieved at everyone else's experiences - I have been slightly worried that I'm actually positive or was positive and spread it around. I am a very cold person by nature but I was at home at the time - no travelling or cycling. I wonder if that still has an effect though.

Very interesting to hear everyone's experiences!
