Isolation Date Mess Up

MarmeladeKing · 29/08/2021 19:12

I think Test and Trace have messed up but I can't see how to fix it. Basically myself and my 3 children have all tested positive. Everyone was ill last weekend with cold symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, sore throat) then on the monday one child got an occasional cough. I got her a PCR test thinking that if she didn't have covid, the rest of us would also be fine. She tested positive, so I got tests for the rest of us. We all tested positive. T&T have been in touch and given 3 of us isolation end dates early next week but for one of my children they have give 7th September! Apparently this is because she doesn't have symptoms - three of the T&T calls asked about a whole host of symptoms, including the ones we had, but her T&T person only asked about fever, smell and continuous cough, so they said the 10 days start from the PCR test date as she didn't have symptoms.

This seems like a big mistake but I can't find out how to fix it - called various areas in 119 but they keep telling me that they can't change something that says no symptoms - but she did have symptoms, just not one of the top 3.

Presumably now though she can't go back to school at the start of term even though the rest of us are out of isolation by 2nd Sept? Does anyone know how to fix this? She'll miss her first days in secondary school so it's a really big deal to her (and me!) Thanks x

Did you not have this conversation with T&T whilst they were on the phone? It’s correct that your 10 day isolation starts the day after symptoms develop OR a positive test. If you were clear on the phone then they surely would have had that conversation with you?

I had the same issue with DS. He had a runny nose and sore throat for 5 days before a positive test but because these aren’t the three “official” symptoms they calculated his isolation from the test date. It was really frustrating!

When I had covid in February they started my isolation from the day I had a migraine, 4 days prior to testing positive.

I did question it but apparently it was too late to go back and change no symptoms. With the other calls I had for us, they asked a whole host of symptoms so answering no to the top 3 didn't impact as I answer yes to others after that. For this child they just stopped with symptoms at that point and gave me the official Speech about being legally required to isolate etc etc and there was no going back.

I had nausea and vertigo as my first symptoms and I started my isolation date from this point.

I would release your DC on the date you think is appropriate.

In any case, when you book a PCR the system asks you to say which date your symptoms started. It doesn't say that they have to be the three main symptoms.

My DD had nausea as her one and only symptom and tested PCR positive the same day.

actiongirl1978 · 29/08/2021 19:36

Can you go into the online account? With each PCR we were sent an online link to do all the t&t stuff without having to speak to someone. It allows me to amend my details until the day before my isolation ends.

MarmeladeKing · 29/08/2021 19:40

Thanks all - I don't have an online account for her - can you have one for children? I suspect though that something like symptoms and date will be frozen from changes....

Won't the school know if I send her to school on the 6th that she's not supposed to be there until the 8th?

Because I disagreed with the "no symptoms date" given, we didn't actually finish the T&T call - they told me they couldnt change it and that I needed to call 119 to argue my case. But I spoke to various people and they all said they couldn't change that field. The upshot of that is that I never actually received a followup message from T&T specifying her end of isolation date, like I got for the rest of us...is that relevant?

I doubt school will be sent a list of who is and isn't supposed to be isolating.

bettyshotspot · 29/08/2021 19:56

This is completely wrong, the T&T person should have read all symptoms and asked you when they first started - T&T cannot now change it, you do have to ring 119 and dispute the Iso end date. If your questionnaire was not completed, are you still receiving 2 hourly calls to complete?

No calls since then and have checked all my text messages and emails - have received nothing further since the end of that call. No chasers to do the form and no confirmation of end of isolation date. I call 119 four times after this as kept getting through to people that just kept saying sorry but I can't help. Someone gave me an email for "customer feedback" which I did send an email to, but I imagine it will sit in that inbox somewhere forever and my daughter's school start date will come and go in the interim. .

One person said go through 119 via the options tracing / contact tracing but that didn't help either - is there a different set of 119 options you think my work better?

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's option 2,2,2 - I've never rung myself though - the call handler should have put you on hold and rung a helpline as soon as you disagreed with the date stated in the isolation disclaimer and put it in the notes - Personally, I would go with the date the symptoms started +10 days and obviously extend should symptoms persist.

Frazzled2207 · 29/08/2021 20:43

Assuming she is well, I'd totally just send her in to school on the first day tbh.
I don't think T&T are wrong per se, but clearly it's a case of computer says no and common sense needs to be applied here. I'd be very surprised if there were any repercussions.

MarmeladeKing · 29/08/2021 22:31

Thanks all - will persist trying to getting it fixed on file but if I can't then will try to psych myself up to go against the date they said on the phone...easier said than done!

Thanks for your info - she's better already actually - we all are, thankfully
