New LFTs - annoying foil

This is the 2nd different new style LFTs I've had recently through the post. The buffer solution is in the tube and the spout is attached to the tube and there's foil on it. The foil is so hard to remove!! I've had to throw one away already as I cant open it and resorted to stabbing another one with scissors. Anyone know if there's a knack to opening them? It's worse than the foil on the milk.

Some of the new ones are completely impassive! I resorted to staffing one with a knife but worried about getting the buffer solution on my skin because there are so many big warnings about this in the instructions! Also, I find the shorter sticks really fiddly to twiddle, I got on much better with the longer ones. And don't get me started on the plastic waste!

FromTheAshes · 27/08/2021 19:01

Impassive =impossible. Sorry, I thought I'd corrected all my autocockups!

Glad it's not just me! I had a different type of new one last time and it was good, better than the fiddly putting buffer into a tube. But these ones give me the rage! And like you, I'm worried about getting the solution on my skin otherwise I'd be tempted to use my teeth! If I can't open them there's no way my nan can.

Omg yes! I just stuck a knife through it! I couldn't get it off

Was it a green and white packet? They were the best ones.

I've just recently used the new style ones (flowflex) and tested positive on three of them (over two days, not all at the same time) but negative on the other (green and white box) ones and negative on a PCR. Other than fiddly foil, has anyone else had this?

LutherRalph1 · 27/08/2021 19:39

I had these through the door today! I thought the packing was much more efficient with the shorter swabs etc but the foil was annoying!

aaaaah · 27/08/2021 19:44

Was it a green and white packet? They were the best ones yes! They were the easiest to use!

Yes! Ended up stabbing a hole in the foil with the other end of the stick. Then dropping the liquid on without closing the lid (it wouldn’t close).

Other than that, I like it for its speed and ease of use.

Mum32021 · 28/08/2021 08:42

@zaffa these ones i tested positive on the very first ones which took 30 mins was still reading negative, 🙄 but a positive pcr if I only had the old ones I would of thought it was just a cold and still left my house

aaaaah · 28/08/2021 09:06

We've wasted another one today just can't get the foil off!

I wonder if I phone the NHS covid line I can feed this back to them or will they just not care?

I literally just stab a hole in it. For enough of the foil to come off to pop the lid on. They're shit.

GreenTortoise · 28/08/2021 15:28

And now I've just been sent the very first ones we had. I prefer the green and white but flowflex
came yesterday and the older ones came today. Ordered more as I was a close contact with someone. Negative PCR but testing daily with LFT to be sure. Although I did get sent a hole testing kit with it to test again for COVID 🤔

I stabbed a hole in one today and sort of dribbled it out. Who tested these?
Hairbrush123 · 01/09/2021 21:12

Can you travel to Birmingham? The walk in centre I went to for my second dose worked on a 6 week period not 8. It was at New Street station.

EasterIssland · 02/09/2021 09:55

you scared me :s we've got one of this for flying back to the uk next week.

I've seen that I had some NHS ones at home and just gave it aa try, so far the foil hasn't resisted... hope when we have to fly back it is ok!

IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 02/09/2021 18:56

It's the Flowflex ones that give problems. They just don't open! How is everyone getting ones that aren't flowflex? Do the pharmacies still have the old ones?
