My ddad got two positive lateral flow, two negative PCR.

My dad, 86, was in contact with someone who subsequently tested positive. My dad did a lateral flow test which was positive. He reported it online and got a pcr home test to do a couple of days later. The results came back negative. The following day he did another lateral flow test which again showed positive. He then booked an appointment at a test site and the HCA there did the test for him. Today it has come back negative. He has been advised by the 119 service that the pcr results will be accurate and to ignore the lateral flow test results.

Is this common?

This has happened to my dh.
Twice.
Six weeks apart.
He self isolated in the house the first time for about 5days, in one room.
The second time, we kind of ignored it tbh.
The lft positive line was really faint and you had to tilt the thing and read it in the light but it was definitely a line that came up within the right time.
He hasn’t been in contact with a known positive though

There seems to have been a bit of a spate of it recently. I had the same, several positive LFTs, three negative PCRs and, a few weeks later, a negative antibody test. There's at least one other virus out there causing a positive result in LFTs that isn't covid.

Negative PCR means he is negative

Not necessarily, Remmy because the false negative rate on the PCR is higher than the false positive rate on the LFT.

That seems unlikely twice though.

Yeah, my dh has been totally fine throughout but had tested positive on lft followed by negative pcr twice- about six weeks apart.
In the meantime he’s had beg lfts
