Bank holiday weekend in isolation, anyone else?

Car was packed ready to go to a luxury family glamping site this morning for bank holiday weekend.

Hot tub, fire pit, weather was looking spot on! DS1 said he felt unwell last night, checked his temp cos he felt hot, above 38.5 and I repeated it several times. Did a LFT just out of interest as I have loads at home, positive, did another, positive, and another this morning positive again. He went for a PCR at 8am today. Anyone else had bank hol plans ruined and wants to be miserable with me?

I’ve lost the £735 I paid for the glamping tent as the cancellation policy was no refund within 28 days of the stay. Angry

Would another family go in your place and give you some of the cost? Even half would be half back?

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 27/08/2021 12:59

What a shame! Do you have travel insurance though? It might be able to cover the money lost. Hope your DS doesn't feel too rough.

Lulu1919 · 27/08/2021 13:08

Was it just you and son going....
If not could the others still go ...
I know would be rubbish to miss out but could you get some really yummy food treats in for whomever stayed behind with son ??

PerditaMacleod · 27/08/2021 13:13

That's annoying, I'm so sorry for you!

I have been isolating for a week already, DH tested positive yesterday so his 10 days will now run until next Saturday. We fortunately didn't have anything expensive planned but we've cancelled a few social occasions :-(

Filterphobia · 27/08/2021 13:23

I don’t have travel insurance and the site have said they would be happy for another family to go in our place but we have asked and most people have plans. I would give it away rather than it go to waste. It’s just too short notice for most people I guess.
It was for 4 of us but I think if my husband went with our younger son it wouldn’t be the same. The boys wouldn’t like being separated.

I'm really sorry your lovely weekend plans are cancelled. We had a similar situation earlier in the summer. So disappointing.

mumontherun14 · 27/08/2021 16:33

Aww its such a shame. We are the same. All 4 of us have tested positive one after the other so the isolating feels never ending. My son finished his today and I have just had my positive test! Myself and my daughter cancelled a big horse show weekend away with friends which is gutting and I am now missing one of my best friends wedding next week. I suppose there is never a great time to get it but yeah it sucks right now especially when the weather is so good & everyone else out and about. Hope your symptoms not too bad - touch wood we are ok with cold like symptoms x

Filterphobia · 27/08/2021 17:10

Oh I didn’t even think about the fact that if anyone else here tests positive. The rolling isolation must be tough mumontherun14 Glad to hear that you’re not suffering too badly though. I’m sorry your plans were ruined as well.

yep - here! Didn't have any plans anyway so doesn't matter to me much though. Hoping it's just nice enough to spend a bit of time in the garden.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/08/2021 19:16

So sorry to hear that!

I'm in isolation with 8yo DS, we have both had Covid but my isolation ended on Tuesday, he tested positive 6 days after me so he has to isolate until Monday. I'm a single parent and obviously can't leave him home alone so I'm home too. It is my birthday next week and I was supposed to be going away this weekend.

rosy71 · 27/08/2021 19:39

Same here. Ds1 is on day 7 of isolation, ds2 is on day 3.

Filterphobia · 27/08/2021 19:45

Oh gosh I feel so sorry for you all. We can all be in this sorry situation together. Flowers

Me! I tested positive on Tuesday, DC and DH on Wednesday. Feeling fed up and sorry for myself. I can’t taste anything so no point ordering in yummy food.

mumontherun14 · 30/08/2021 16:42

Hope you are all feeling not too bad. I've lost my sense of taste and smell as well I hope that will come back!!! DS just gone back to school and he is ok but tired. DD quite chesty with her cough but she finishes on Wed and DH on Thurs. I am on Sunday. All not too bad touch wood its just like a horrible long flu that wont shift and we're taking all the usual remedies but nothing really helps. Trying to find some good stuff to watch on tv and just pass the time but all quite fed up now xxx

HesterShaw1 · 30/08/2021 16:48

Really sorry to hear that OP. That really sucks.

I'm isolating as well after testing +ve on Monday, and live on my own. I've not found it too bad, as the weather has been nice and I can chat to the neighbours over the wall. Kind people keep bringing me stuff from their allotments! Feeling ok now compared to the first few days, but definitely starting to get a bit lonely and bloody bored. Obviously there are a million things I could be doing round the house and garden etc, and haven't.

Back to work on Thursday....

Twilightstarbright · 30/08/2021 19:09

My god, time really drags doesn’t it? I don’t know why I’m finding this much harder than the two week isolation that we did last year.

Christmasfairy2020 · 30/08/2021 19:18

I'd have said. You either change the dates or we come and isolate there.

Singinghollybob · 30/08/2021 23:13

Yes I'm isolating too, was supposed to be flying abroad in the morning but tested positive on Sat, gutted!!
