Covid after double jabbed

Bexily · 27/08/2021 10:09

I've just had a positive lateral flow, I know that being jabbed doesn't prevent you from getting covid but wondered if anybody has any experience of the symptoms and progression.

I feel like I've got a bad cold, sore throat, headache, just generally rubbish but I don't have any of the 3 covid symptoms that would allow me to book a Pcr. I did a lateral flow at work on Tuesday and it was negative (didn't feel anyway ill, we have to go them). Started with sore throat Wednesday and felt really run down yesterday and today, I've done another Lateral Flow this morning and got an immediate positive. Thankfully I've been working from home for the rest of the week because the kids have been ill.

I'm going for a Pcr this aft.

I caught it after double jabbed, like a bad cold. Sneezing, headache, temperature, cough, loss of smell, fatigue in that order. 2 weeks unwell of which 2 days in bed and 5 days sofa bound . Scary but ok, got one of those oxygen levels monitor finger things to reassure myself!

JoeMaplin · 28/08/2021 23:36

My just turned 18 year old just had covid after being double jabbed jan and April. No symptoms really, maybe slight tickle in throat, slight loss taste and smell, slight headache for day or two.

Bexily · 29/08/2021 08:53

I started with a sore throat, headache and sneezing. The sore throat has gone but I've lost my sense of smell. I have a runny nose, occasional cough, horrible headache and chills. Feeling a bit brighter today after a really good sleep so hoping I'm on the mend.

@Bexily

Glad you're feeling brighter today.

Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine.

Hopefully it won't last much longer for us Thanks

Dee1975 · 29/08/2021 09:36

DH double jabbed (Pfizer) and currently has Covid. Symptoms very similar to you. Feels like a bad cold. He did have extreme aches first 48 hours along with hot / hot sweats.

Day 5 now. And just a ‘bad’ cold. But he is sleeping loads. 10 plus hours a night and 2 naps in the day!

Hope you start to feel better soon op.

VanCleefArpels · 29/08/2021 09:41

Sore throat and headache seem to be the most frequent symptoms at the moment (Delta?) and most that I know of that have caught Covid and been jabbed (young people at festivals and nightclubs!) feel a bit off for 2-3 days and that’s it

MummyTo3Beauts · 29/08/2021 09:54

@VanCleefArpels

Track and trace said yesterday so many people have said they thought it was just hay fever.

Please ignore Bubbulish

OP you are like to feel like shit for about a week, then recover. Bit like flu.

Trinacham · 29/08/2021 10:21

Not jabbed at all (pregnant so have chosen to wait) but all I've had: slight sniffle, loss of taste and smell. My 10 days is nearly up. I don't think symptoms/severity necessarily has anything to do with jabs as my symptoms sound much more mild than others!

QueefofSheena · 29/08/2021 10:29

Keep an eye on your oxygen levels. I’ve got lung issues and was on the shielding list so I’ve got an oximeter just in case, as having one saved a close friend. When his levels dipped he knew he was in trouble and called an ambulance. Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

The government haven't updated the symptoms for getting a PCR, despite the delta variant being more cold like as you describe. If you think you need a test, book one.

Whilst some people will become very unwell, the vast majority will be able to manage their symptoms at home. I'd take some of the more elaborate stories with a pinch of salt.

Bexily · 29/08/2021 13:24

"CorrBlimeyGG" the trouble is you can't book a PCR without one of the 3 standard symptoms or with a positive lateral flow, unless you lie. They really need to change that.

I've ordered an oximeter to keep an eye on my oxygen levels, although I'm not as worried today because I do feel a bit better.

Thank you all for the well wishes and I hope anybody else that has it gets well soon.

I can't link @Bexily as I'm on the app, but there is a longer thread in CV for people with CV and double jabbed, although (and not to make light of it, I'm on it myself!) I think it's like review sites where people are more likely to post if they have had a bad experience, if you bear that in mind it's not quite as alarming maybe?

I'm three weeks post CV and have underlying issues - so I did develop a lung infection and did feel absolute shit, but I had a bout pneumonia last year which was much worse. Considering I spent much of last year shielding and receiving letters about staying away from my household and making hospital plans (the Hmm feeling from the letters just being signed "Matt" from Matt Hancock almost put me in fucking hospital!) I'm very relieved. My GP said she felt it was definitely the jab that prevented it being worse (and I was in the early jab wave so was a bit worried about immunity lessening)

I still haven't got full taste and smell back which does feel very odd! I can distinguish "flavours" like sweet v salty from my tongue (that sounds bizarre!) but can't taste bland things like chocolate digestives I have been slicing up chillis and adding them to everything I eat like cheese on toast. (Heartily recommend this, it makes it feel more like pizza!)

Happy36 · 29/08/2021 13:32

A very strong and healthy 28 year old relative was double jabbed in July and had been shielding for 12 days (not leaving the house at all, had bought food in advance so no deliveries). LFT every day as they were shielding before going to visit a CEV relative (planned to go on day 16).

On day 11 of shielding had a faint positive LFT, went to do a PCR which was negative. Day 12, LFT positive, so was the PCR. That day, symptoms started and quickly became quite serious.

This was 8 days ago and they have been bedbound the whole time and are still pretty unwell - very high temperatures, lots of fever, frequent diarrhoea, very swollen glands, sore throat, bad headaches, plus total loss of taste and smell.

WTFIsTheAnswerToThis · 29/08/2021 13:33

Also Bubbublish FFS stop bloody scaremongering will you?!. "Nearly didn't make it" and "touch and go" from someone who was posting all the way through and wasn't admitted to ICU (and has had posts and threads deleted - I agree with PP here!)

I also agree that, admittedly anecdata) symptoms this time seem to be sore throat and headache, they really should update the "symptoms worthy of PCR test" list but I guess "headache" is so nebulous and lots of people would be testing...

Maverickess · 29/08/2021 16:06

I'm now on day 4 and was feeling a bit better yesterday but I've been having chills and aches again today like my temperature has gone back up (don't have a thermometer for accuracy) and feeling grotty again, it's coming down again and I'm feeling better with paracetamol and ibuprofen, so maybe I was a bit optimistic yesterday thinking I was getting a bit better, it's nothing unmanageable with rest and paracetamol at the moment, and of course plenty of fluids.
Still sneezy and runny but not blocked nose, is where it differs from a cold for me.

Double jabbed DH turned 60 last week and got pinged a few days before .He tested lft negative but PCR positive. He has the mildest of colds since the sunday. We were in a hotel when he got infected and thought it was the aircon. His symptoms never got worse than a mild sore throat and a few sneezes and maybe a mild headache. Neither me or dd 23 (double jabbed) caught covide . DS 25 was single jabbed and due his 2nd that day and he tested negative as well
zaffa · 29/08/2021 21:20

@Whattodoaboutnothing

Anyone had positive Covid, then double jabbed, then had positive Covid again? Wondering if these people suffer less or just the same having had natural immunity followed by vaccination.
I tested positive on three LFT (over two days) following covid, then double jabbed. However, I tested negative at PCR and also negative on some LFT from a different batch. On day three, I then tested negative on a LFT from the first batch. My husband used two tests from that same batch and they were both negative for him. So either I am super unlucky and had three dodgy tests in one kit, or I picked up the tail end of it with testing. If I did, then I didn't notice I had covid (and in Jan, when I had it the first time, I felt dreadful and couldn't get out of bed for a week). I don't know which, I don't know if LFT are really that inaccurate; this happened Thursday and I still feel absolutely fine.
Bexily · 01/09/2021 18:13

How is everybody doing? I've been gradually getting better for the last few days, other than a blocked nose, still can't smell and have an occasional cough I feel OK today. Fingers crossed another few days and I'll be back to normal.

OP posts:
MummyTo3Beauts · 01/09/2021 18:32

Same as you, blocked nose, can't smell and a little bit chesty.

I'm glad the headaches have gone.

When are you allowed out again? My kids go back to school tomorrow as they are still negative and have no symptoms but I'm obviously not allowed to take them 😢

Siameasy · 01/09/2021 18:38

Ugh I had it really mildly so on day 11 (Sunday) I went back to work. That seemed to trigger some sort of relapse because Monday evening I felt like death and am currently having to lie down as I feel so dizzy!

Siameasy · 01/09/2021 18:38

So please, take it easy even if you feel normal

TimTheEnchantress · 01/09/2021 19:11

I had my second jab back in January. I had a positive PCR on August 16th initially followed by mild symptoms and then what felt like a nasty dose of flu. Starting to get a vague sense of taste back now but still completely exhausted, have head and muscle aches and not able to go back to work. Really thought I'd be better by now so feeling quite demoralised. Is anyone else feeling like this?
