PCR test for travelling abroad

For those that have been abroad, which company did you opt for for the PCR test and how long did it take to receive the results etc? If I'm travelling on the 30th, do I need to have taken the test and sent it off within the 72 hour period? Sorry if this topic has been exhausted but I'm one of those people where things go wrong at every turn so having this spelt out for me would be great 😂 TIA.

We opted for a same day test with Randox at our nearest airport (20 mins away) for our two DCs. It was £70 per person with a 12 hour turn around (although it ended being back in less than three). The lab processing the tests is on site in the airport car park.
Randox administered the tests and our children said that it was more comfortable than when daddy tested them! We did it two days before we travelled which gave us time to pack once we got the results. Our holiday was fully canceable on 24 hours notice so it also gave us time to cancel had we got a positive result.

@BunsyGirl getting it done at the airport does sound more convenient tbh! I'd need to stay at a hotel nearby the night before anyway so I guess I could get it done a day or two before? At the same time I'd rather know if it's negative or not prior to going to the hotel because at least I could cancel that, I'd be travelling to Heathrow from the NW. But I'll look into Randox otherwise, thank you :)

@crochetandcoffeebreaks we didn’t actually get it done at the airport we travelled from (Heathrow). We got it done at the airport nearest to where we live (Stansted) which happened to be the most convenient place for us to get it done. It was a drive through facility in the airport car park. Our local NHS testing facility is in the same car park (but in a different section) so we are quite used to going there. Randox have on site testing at various places in the U.K. Think they have one at Manchester airport if that is accessible for you.

I had mine done at Express Tests at Birmingham airport (they are at other airports). Really easy, drive through service, results took less than 24hrs.

Thank you both, yes the Manchester one is definitely more accessible for me Smile

My DH used Randox at Manchester airport this week. He paid for the 12 hour service and got the results in under three hours. He said it was all very efficient.

crochetandcoffeebreaks · 26/08/2021 18:22

Oh that's great @Barkingdog! I've booked the 12 hour one with Randox today - Monday afternoon and the flight is the Thursday afternoon so fingers crossed all goes well Smile

Do you have to test if double vaccinated?
crochetandcoffeebreaks · 26/08/2021 19:39

Thanks @refreshpage, I've checked before booking Smile just getting a bit impatient at this point, I've been separated from a special family member for almost 2 years and just need to reunited again!
