Isolating away from family?

I’ve just done my regular weekly LTF for work and it’s come up as positive. I feel perfectly fine! But off to do a PCR etc. The new rules mean my kids and husband don’t need to stay in if they test negative, right? But they could still catch it from me so am I supposed to completely isolate from them for 10 days?

Up to you what you want to do. I didn't bother even trying to isolate from my 8yo, can't anyway as I'm a single parent. He did catch it so we've had to extend isolation.

Depends if you are able to. In our case we wouldn’t be able to isolate from each other at all but if we had the space then would attempt to limit contact.

In a spare room with ideally it's own bathroom, but if it doesn't have one then you need to put on a mask whenever you leave the bedroom and thoroughly santitise everything you touch.

You do realise not everyone has a spare bedroom let alone second bathroom?

If DH or I get it we'll be carrying on as normal indoors, we've no other choice.

In Scotland, they can only avoid isolation after a negative PCR too though. I know this isn't the current system in England, but it makes more sense to me than just suggesting a PCR.

OP is asking if she should isolate from them, because they do not have to.

I would OP, where possible. We have agreed that if one of us tests positive we get the bedroom and the other can sleep on the sofa. It is a shared bathroom so we would just be wiping down everyone after each use.

They do if they get a positive test, which is what the OP is (half) expecting!

Correct.

My husband tested positive yesterday. We are carrying on as normal, certainly not isolating from each other!

In the ideal world, yes. If not, a good idea for them to do daily LFTs and leave a PCR at least a couple of days.

I tested positive last week, OH & kids PCR negative, they’ve had lateral flows & my OH has done them before work as his boss said he could work with current guidance.

Have to say I’m not isolating from them, have stepped up cleaning of kitchen & bathrooms but my isolation is up Saturday & they’re all fine but my OH had covid last year & is double jabbed.

There’s no way I could isolate from the kids & we are using separate bathrooms but we’ve both refused to sleep on the sofa.

I’m also keeping windows open as much as possible.

My dd tested positive last week. We have given her our room as has an en-suite and she is isolating in there. Rest of us have had negative PCRs and doing LFT every day. So far so good 🤞

Thanks everyone! I am feeling perfectly fine. I only did a test because I’m asked to for work. Maybe I have the vaguest hint of a cold but nothing that would have said COVID to me. We’ve all been for pcr tests and will stay indoors until we get results. We can’t keep completely away from each other but I’m avoiding them as much as possible and wearing a mask if I have to go into another room. Such a shit end to the summer holidays!

I’ve got it too at the moment, it’s pretty mild and hopefully you’ll be fine. Haven’t really isolated from DH/DD but just been sensible eg not sharing utensils or flannels, not licking DD’s ice lollyGrin etc
DH being grumpy so im happy to distance.

My dd had covid and stayed in her room. We sanitised everything she touched when she went to the bathroom etc and no one else caught it

Then a month later dh had covid and we just couldn't isolate him away from everyone and we didn't bother disinfecting anything he touched. I also stupidly (but out of necessity) shared a drink with him while he was symptomatic but before he had a positive result and still none of us caught it.

We’re doing this at the moment. DH is positive (feels fine just a little bunged up) rest of us negative. He’s in separate bedroom and bathroom (appreciate we are lucky here) and he’s using the kitchen at separate times with all doors and windows open.

DC and I are still going out although have told friends we were meant to meet with and they’ve mostly declined!

I’m slightly wondering why we are bothering though as I reckon it’s going to spread hugely once schools are back next week. Might even be better for DC to get it now and not miss school…
