Just curious. Given that even household members no longer have to isolate is the all still contact tracing? If someone I'm sat next to at a cafe (or whatever) tests positive will I
A) never know
B) be told on the app but just for info
C) be told on the app and 'recommended' to take a PCR and be cautious with vulnerable contacts
D) other???

Anyone know?

I’d like to know this too. As it’s been made less sensitive does it mean the matched key counts now mean you’ve been exposed to it more than previously?

cheninblanc · 23/08/2021 23:37

I've disabled mine as I'm not sure what's it for now, you don't even have to check in anywhere

AllTheSingleLadiess · 24/08/2021 00:06

I think it's A because there's no checking into cafes for contact tracing now. If contact tracers called you it would be because the person you were with tested positive and they told contact tracers who you were and presumably they tell you to get a pcr if you develop symptoms

Millions of unvaccinated people still have to isolate if they are close contacts. The rules only changed for fully vaccinated adults and everyone under 18.

Topseyt · 24/08/2021 01:36

Mine doesn't work at all now. I've deleted it.

ColettesEarrings · 24/08/2021 07:57

If someone tested positive you'd only know in the same way as before, if they uploaded their test result code to the app. The app is and always was completely separate to Test and Trace. If you had both checked in at the same venue but your phones hadn't connected via the Bluetooth distance checking, you would get an advisory check in alert. Check in alerts and contact alerts are and always were separate mechanisms within the app.

puglovesbooks · 24/08/2021 09:30

Ah yes I think there is (as there always was) some confusion about the different types of tracing. I'm not asking about Test and Trace (I know how that works) or Venue Check-In but just about Bluetooth contact tracing. I think as a PP commented that it is probably the same as it ever was because unvaccinated people still need to isolate.

This is also an interesting question.

I was pinged recently. It said people who were double jabbed were advised to take a PCR but do not need to isolate. On the day the app was telling me was exposure day, I had not checked in anywhere. I had been on a journey of about 30 mins on a public bus so am assuming it was from someone on the bus who subsequently tested positive. There were 5 days between exposure day & when I was notified. I have had no symptoms, I took an LFT which was negative but other than that have been carrying on as normal.

puglovesbooks · 24/08/2021 11:20

Thanks Wrinklyeyes that's exactly what I was wondering and makes sense too.

I’ve turned my contact tracing on now I won’t have to self isolate - and I’m really interested to see if I get pinged. I haven’t been yet - despite going to several busy places over the past fortnight

Whiskers4 · 24/08/2021 15:40

I've kept mine as I still want to know if I've had contact. I've had double dosed, but would like to know if I'm at risk in case so I can be more careful when I'm out and about (I am anyone, but more so).
